So my dealership declined my frame saying it was only surface rust. I don't agree with that call. I want to get a second opinion. What do you guys think, took these pictures today. The part of the frame where the 2-ply is splitting it probably the worst part of the frame, but they won't replace it unless there is a 10mm hole. I found one hole about 10mm but I'm not sure if the hole is part of the frame or not, the other side does not have a hole there.

    Edit: words

Living in arid Colorado I have different standards for rust but that looks horrible. Try another dealer or appeal to the Toyota Regional office. Take a look at toyoland.com for suggestions on dispute resolutions.

Take a power washer to the frame and give a nice hard cleaning blast to that hole. Then take it into a different dealer. The frame settlement allows for you to ask again. I made sure the mechanic came and got me once it was on the lift so I could show them.

Used a hammer and a screwdriver and it poped right thru, didn't want it to look like I did it on purpose.

What year is the rust recall for? I was under my '14 Tacoma the other day and noticed rust, not near this bad, but there was rust on almost all the welds on the frame and components. I'm in CO, have 61k miles on it.

What’s the first pic of? Take a pic of the same area, from the same angle, but further away about a foot or 2. I don’t think that’s the frame.

A solid frame won’t be damaged with a screwdriver and a hammer. If it’s bad, it’s bad.. hammer isn’t going to do anything to a solid frame.

True, guess that's why I'm wondering if that hole is normally there, because the other side does not have that hole. Didn't know if that hole is there from rolling the steel when making the frame or something.

There are no holes from rolling the steel on a new frame lol...get another opinion on it from the dealer or a different one, you should qualify

Thanks, that's what I thought lol. I already talked to another dealer and he said he would let me come out on the floor and show them.

Somewhere there's a pic of what frame areas the techs are supposed to check. From memory, it seems like there's something about the crossmembers don't count. Don't know about the front cab mounts. The good news is that you still have about 1 year left for it to rust through, depending on when your date of 1st use is. I would still try another dealer and see what happens.
