Wow I had no idea that there was a manufacturing defect in the newer model Tacoma's. I have a 2009 model and I have never heard that sound. Either I have never driven into very strong crosswinds or my truck doesn't have that defect.

The thing that gets me about all this is the supremely dismissive and arrogant attitudes of some dealers. Toyota had best tighten up it's dealer network, because that shit isn't going to fly for much longer. Now my local Toyota dealer has been very good to me .. though I did have one service tech who treated me as if I was an inconvenience he wished would go away. It was totally unacceptable how he talked to me.

But I walk into the local Subaru dealer, and it's all "yes sir, right away sir, would you like a coffee while you wait sir, we'll take care of that sir." And they do every single time. Not one argument of any kind, not one refusal to take care of an issue.

If you are used to that level of quality care, then you know what many Toyota dealers are getting away with is total bull. Personally, I think we would be doing Toyota a BIG favor if every time someone ran into a situation of substandard care, they reported it to corporate. Every single time. Bad dealerships should get their shit in order, or cease to exist. Corporate needs to come down hard here, and they need to hear from their loyalists .. pay attention to us, or we walk.

i've got the exact same sound as in the video, but much more persistent. it didn't start until i had about 3-4k miles on it, but it seems to get a bit worse every time i get on the highway. now it typically starts at about 70 and with headwinds will go down to the 50's. i wouldn't say it sounds like a kazoo so much as a dog dying from an epileptic fit for your entire 8 hour drive... cranking the radio to 62 doesn't help. i'll probably mention it at the 20k service, see what happens.

What the fuck? My comment was aimed towards how any dealership will give you shit and put up any argument just to save a buck. BMW, Ford, Chrysler, you name it, I've seen it. Thanks for calling me a fucking idiot, you stupid asshat.

no shitty dealers that are bleeding money and not selling any fucking cars try to screw over people who already bought cars cause they dont want to deal with submitting warranty paper work

I used to drive a 96 Acura Integra and in 05 there was a FEDERAL recall of a shitload of parts because a lot of them were putting out too high of emissions ... so if your car was one of the ones they determined to be bad (by vin) and had less than 150k on it ... you took it in and they basically did a big ass tune up on it .. cap, rotor, plugs, wires, NEW CAT ... oh and i wasnt exempted from the recall for having aftermarket intake, header and exhaust either.

thats a lot of work for FAIRFIELD CA, ACURA to be doing on a vehicle i didnt even buy there and was close to 10 years old .... absolutely no argument was given on their end to "save a buck" and in their case shit like that woulda probably cost $300 to $400 with what dealers charge.

Furthermore the only reason i wasnt given a loaner car is I was 20 at the time, or i woulda gotten one of those too free of charge (gotta be 25) .... so for these people to be treated like shit from their toyota dealers for new trucks that cost upwards of 20k is absolutely ridiculous and should not be tolerated

but hey what the hell do you know daddy probably bought you your 08 and you dont give a shit cause youre not shelling out the money for the maintenance either.

Bull shit. Right now you're talking about a Federal recall issue. My reasoning has to do with a problem that doesn't even have a recall, but only a TSB thrown out there for Tacoma owners to grab and hopefully get an issue looked at. In that case I'm pretty sure Acura was forced to take action considering it was a Federal recall that dealt with emissions, not a TSB. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a kid going to college studying Mechanical Engineering. I also don't see how my truck being bought by someone else is any of your fucking business.

my bad maybe i was a lil harsh but it irks me a bit to see people say
    "oh just deal with it"
"oh its an easy fix" ...

especially when this thread about this issue is 11 pages long and you got new people coming out of the woodwork reporting the same thing, then yes thats a problem.

when the reason people buy new vehicles is to take it easy and not worry about shit breaking .... and when it does thru no fault of their own like a manufacturing defect which this seems to be .... warranty should cover it

and whoever tried to neg rep me and accidently neutraled it, A) you fail and B) nice job not leaving your name ... rep has never been something that has been an issue to me but at least have some balls to air your issue in the open and discuss it like rational people ... ill chill on the profane language if a mod chooses to take issue with that aswell.

I'm not trying to argue with anyone here, and if you thought I was bagging on Jeep that's not what I meant. I remember always being in dealerships when I was little, whether it was the Ford dealership, BMW, or even Chrysler. There was not one time I remember seeing my parents get what they wanted repaired that should have been covered under warranty because it was a manufacture problem that wasn't caused by the driver. Dealerships accommodate with their customers, not argue and drive them off.. I still have yet to see that accommodation in my lifetime.

And theres the issue right there .... this problem exists on EARLIER year tacomas and other people have posted about it being fixed

but now we have the dealers trying to not do anything about it with the people who have new ones since toyota hasnt yet forced their hand, namely the thread starter thats driving a 2011

When i had my 99 mazda b series ... the cruise control module had a problem causing it to catch fire ... for the longest time ford wouldnt replace the part in mazdas despite it being the same exact part .... a friend of mine had a 2000 with cruise and decided what the hell .. went to Chico Whittmier Ford and asked em about it ... the techs realized it was the same part # as the rangers and fixed it even though ford had not yet told them to fix it in mazdas too (ford later did)

As for your truck being bought by someone else ... i dont have a big problem with it especially with you being 19 and away at college, just simply saying this is why you may have an indifference to giving a shit about if something breaks on your truck and the dealer doesn't cover you

Mellow out, folks. You can discuss a topic without getting personal and insulting.

    Hi everyone,

From my side I went to the dealer yesterday with my 2011, at first they said that they were going to replace the seal around the winshield, then they said they wanted one of their machanics to do a roadtest and I said fine. I told them that the gazoo noise happened only once while a was on the highway with strong cross win and it would be difficult to replicate that situation. Then they tried it and said that the winshield seal looked OK and that there was some plastic part on my canoe rack on my cab that could make some noise. Anyway, I found a short clip on youtube that I am going to send them along the TSB. Just to tell them that I do not consider the file closed, but since in my case it only happened once; I will wait before getting the original winshield seal removed and replaced. I will cary some duct tape with me and if it happends again I want to tape the plastic holders at the bottom of the winshield that we have on each bottom corner. I think those holder can move and they could make some noise if win would get under it. And if this fix it, then I would put silicone on them to fix them to the winshield. And if this does not work, then maybe I will have the seal replace or accept it as design defect, that the new body has some aerodynamic issues for certain conditions maybe???

What I understand about this issue is that it probably started in 2005. There was a TSB about it in 2007 for 2005 and up models. That some owners had the winshield redone and for some that fix the problems but for others that did not fix the problem?

I am not sure what to think now. It's like when you sleep with a new girl and then you realize that she snor very badly ;-)

    Until next time,

    Claude,
