    Thats too bad...
The curernt CEO of Ford, Alan Mulally, used to be the president of the Commercial Airplanes of Boeing. (I work for Boeing, on the Integrated Defense side {military}) He did a great job in that position.
I knew when he took that job and left Boeing he was in for a challenge, stepping into that mess... Looks like it has gotten worse, hopefully he can pull them around.
Glad I'm not in his shoes!

Very true! I really don't like how that works... someone comes in, turns the company upside down... possible destroys it and then we have to pay them to let them go! Who in their right mind would refuse a position like that? Either way you score the big pay check!

A position like that is not offered. It is negotiated. Your negotiating power is greater based on your track record/history and past success. Just like baseball, hockey players…

That being said - if you fail and walk away with a wad of cash, your reputation is still tarnished. You will have a hard time negotiating that kind of deal again.

Not really. If your successes over shadow your failures, companies will come looking for you and/or lure you.
