Are they keeping it? Mine looks exactly like that, and I've got an appointment this afternoon.

So I did email danica.sorenson@toyota.com on Sunday evening and she got back to me last night by email to let me know that an "Operations Supervisor" will be reaching out to me today to go over my issue. The email I sent her was very detailed including times, dates, names, and pictures along with keeping a professional tone. Hopefully the operations supervisor can help get this all cleared up.

They were non committal on keeping it. I told them it was leaking, but they need to do their inspection. Suppose to call me later

I had 3 spots about the size of a half dollar of seepage and presented photos to the service advisor along with a description of the sound I was hearing along with a suggestion that my sound could be the result of a bad pinion bearing. I asked that the master tech run the truck while on a lift to verify. He did. They noted their findings and came to the conclusion that the differential needed to be replaced. I followed up with a phone call to corporate after I had all ready submitted photos and email to corporate with my concerns. Corporate responded with concern and advised me to speak with the Service Mgr. and I did. The service mgr. set me up with a loaner based on my need. I did not pressure the dealership to get my truck back. In fact reading from this site convinced me that I could be in for a long wait and I told them I was in no hurry. I just wanted to have it fixed correctly and they assured me they would take good care of me and they did. I may have been the only truck at the dealer for this issue. I did not ask. I live in small town Midwest. We generally tend to look out for one another around here. I did not have to pressure anyone to do anything. When it came to decide whether it was warranty or recall, it really did not matter to me. It was just a paper work thing and the dealer and manufacture worked it out. My experience around here with another dealer. I was negotiating to purchase a Ford for my wife. I had done all the due diligence and thought I had the lowest price. I meet with the sales person. I suggest the price I would pay with the trade in. He comes back well I am going to sell it to you for this which happened to be much lower than I had intended. He apparently felt he was satisfied with making just so much on the deal. The car was at another dealer about 60 miles away. I asked if I could ride along when they went to get it and they said they would do better than that. They would let me take the dealer trade to pick it up and I did. I delivered the car and title on the trade and took the car and title of the intended purchase back to the dealer I was purchasing from. This is just the way we work around here. We are laid back. I pray that all of you having to deal with this issue get your trucks back as soon as possible.

Keep us updated on the that "bad pinion bearing".
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ling-when-feathering-throttle.442341/page-126

Had my diff replaced for the same thing and the new diff is worse than the first one! The regional Toyota engineer came out to check the noise and then informed us that the noise was standard with the Tacoma longbed...

My service adviser was just as incredulous as I was. He figured they'd come out with a fix for it eventually but I should call corporate and complain. We'll see.

    Update #2:

So dropped off the Truck early morning to be inspected for the rear-differential leak. (Right there, took some pics again just incase) Spoke with the same service guy that since my 16 Offroad is not under recall but it is leaking that it should be be able to be fixed under warranty because 60k powertain warranty etc... To which he said something along the line: Yes yes thats what we would do. So I didn't bring up how the woman in the recall office told me about "looks wet, could be water..and .how much it will cost me to fix since my 16 OR is not on recall list" comment and not willing to acknowledge the leak when i showed her the pic.

Just got the call, they would have to order the parts and it will be processed under warranty but its safe to drive. Also got my usual service done. So now just gotta wait for the parts to come.

so fukin odd!! some dealers, mine included refused to order any parts unless the
truck is on the lot and 'downed' until repaired.

My terminology was bad pinion bearing when describing the sound to the service advisor. The exact wordage on the work order was 17376 ring and pinion miss aligned in diff Replaced rear differential assembly. (N/C) and yes the sound is gone. Now, it might come back who knows. There maybe something additional that might be causing abnormal wear resulting in noise after use. When I first purchased the truck the noise was not present and when it started it was intermittent and finally was continuous. At this moment, it is gone and hopefully will remain so. I am not a mechanic and only know enough to get myself into trouble. I trust the master tech whom seems to be extremely capable to take care of my truck. He did.

Had a supervised visitation when I went in to renew my rental agreement for another month. There are about 4 dozen Tacomas still waiting parts.

Service manager said they're no longer taking trucks because the rental agency is maxed out of suitable replacements, and no one (surprise surprise) is willing to accept a Corolla.

We talked about taking short-term possession for when I need to haul stuff. That's right - I get to "borrow" my own truck from the dealership.

They looked up the parts needed, and there is still nothing in the computer on when they're expected.

Uh, are they allowed to do that? I can't imagine a dealership being allowed to turn away a recalled vehicle.

Seems each dealership has its own set of rules and interprets the recall instructions as they see fit.

Well tomorrow I will take my Taco in for 15k service and LCA plugs.....I have the recall letter...should I show it to them, or wait and see if they run Vin and say something to me. The pumpkin shows signs of leaking but no puddles....Since I have no puddles, would it be wise just to sit back and see what they say instead of running risk of losing truck for 60-90 days? Oh, BTW, the HPFP that was replaced in May is now fluttering again...I was told they are working on a new one and even if they replace it , it will fail again....so should I ask about that too?

Right on. I'm glad it seems to have worked out for you.

I'm disappointed that my experience wasn't similar. Your outcome was the outcome I wanted.

I think its time that some pull together and lawyer up that live in close proximity to each other..

I'm battling with them right now about my hood vibrating like a tin roof in a hurricane. I was told by Service mgr that's normal. so we test drove a new truck and no vibrations I said that's normal....

I am really starting to hate Toyota and what the stand for!
