"The latest move by Toyota indicates a healthy and hearty midsize truck market. The Japanese automaker announced it would increase production at its Tacoma pickup plant in Mexico by 60,000 trucks a year. Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz explained the reason for the expansion, saying, "Demand for trucks has grown exponentially."

Interesting, Toyota can't build them fast enough, but then I come here & it looks like these are the biggest piles of junk on the road-

Seems to me that they will also decrease production in Texas at the same time they increase in Mexico, just seems like a way to save money more than anything else.

    Same as everybody else...
I saw an advertisement today on TV promoting leasing the Tacoma, I don't recall ever seeing Toyota doing that. I've seen commercials for car leasing but not the Tacoma. I was at my dealers service department today getting work done so I went over to check out the one and only 3rd Gen Taco on his lot. Looks very nice....

So let's increase production capacity and continue to cut quality assurance/control....... Toyota is going down hill.

I think part of the reason they are doing this is when they finally update the Tundra. The sales of the Tundra will increase. Currently the factory is at max capacity. The factory was originally built for the Tundra.

They need to focus on QUALITY vs. quantity

Increased personal leasing shows a combination of a weak economy and a truck that has gone up in value out of reach of it's traditional client base. Leasing is cheaper which allows people who can't afford to finance the crazy price of a Tacoma now to get one in their driveway.

This isn't entirely true. Leasing is the only way to go for consumers who intend to use for business. This applies to Toyotas strong fleet growth as well as growth in the market in general.

There's no profit in quality, only in quantity. Americans look for lowest price, not willing to pay more for quality.

This is what I sort of think as well. I'm thinking 2018 tundra might be a big update.

Kind of smoke and mirrors for Toyota. Announce an increase in Mexican production in the near future and as the 2018 Revised Tundra rolls out, dial back Texas Tacoma production in anticipation of a Tundra sales spike. This does gain them free media on these types of announcements.

I chose to lease, because if I get a smitty99 version I feel a lease is easier to walk away from after it is over. And if I got a good one, I can just buy it out at the end, no big deal.
