Figure since I visit this website so often it’s time to start documenting my own build.

In this thread, all are welcome to join me in LARP-ing (live action role playing) as Toyota technicians and/or people that know about automobiles.

Proud to say I swapped the transmission BEFORE plastidipping the wheels

Wheels/Tires
- 265/70/R17 Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT
- XD Spy? from previous owner

Drivetrain
- 4x4 Transmission Swap (07-21 - 09-21)
- ADD Delete (11-22-21)

 

Suspension Upgrade v1 (12-21-21)

Today I got to work on upgrading the suspension. Went with a Bilstein kit (HS05BK-1-DAKAR) from Headstrong Offered - https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/s...tein_5100_Kit_w/_Dakars_(HS05BK-1-Dakar).html

Includes the Old Man Emu 885 coils, medium load dakar leaf pack, and SPC upper control arms.




Initial measurements:

• Front - 20” (center hub to fender), 34.5” (ground to fender)
• Rear - 21.5” (center hub to fender), 36.75” (ground to fender)

Can't wait for all these rusty bolts

 

How much did your 4x4 swap cost? Im currently starting to collect parts for my 4x4 swap
Im probably going to buy the tcase first. Its the automatic trans tcase from an FJ cruiser correct?

 

Somewhere in the ballpark of $5k, but you could sure do it for cheaper without shipping. And shopping around. I’ll check for the exact price soon

 

iv been shopping around, I’m thinking I can do it for around $2000-$3000 depending if I can score a good transmission
