Have you ever looked at your oil filter?

    +3

I had a brand new boat they had to pull the engine because they couldn't get the filter off from the factory. Strap wrenches, screw driver thru filter.... whatever it takes.

My wifes Subaru has a remote filter on top. I guess saving a few cents? I would pay for a remote filter as an option,

Last Toyota care, the techs left a bolt missing off my skid plate and moved my seat. Don’t move my seat.

Seems Toyota is giving up on the cartridge filter, looking like all the TNGA engines will have disposable spin-on's.

I've had some success with those things by using a pipe wrench and a floor jack doing them for friends that have them and were put on my god's own impact.

It's sad to me the torque spec is almost humorously low and yet everyone tightens rhe bajebus out of them.

I'm wondering if the Dealership doesn't not change the filter if they can't get it off?

I wonder how often they change them even when it's 'convenient.'
Wipe an oily glove over the housing for that owner that considers himself a sleuth, and go have that smoke break..

Those 2 (free) oil changes that come with the truck are not worth all the hassle that comes from them.

The biggest issue is you have to wait three hours then haggle with the guy after when he tries to sell you the $75 cabin air filter.

Maybe the question we ought to be asking is why?
Why are so many professionals who ought to know better are doing this?
Are they coming loose or something we don't know about?
I say effem, I do my own and non have ever got loose

Methinks it's education. It's almost always education, no employer wants to take the time (money) to educate employees, especially when something small (like oil filter housings) has a design change.

I agree for the most part; I really just bring the truck in for ToyotaCare because 1) it's free and 2) service records.

I just changed oil at 15k so I will let them change it at 20k for free... I may mention something about over torquing the oil filter housing...

When I was just in for 15k ToyotaCare they told me I needed a new cabin air filter. I asked how much thinking if it was $20 or $30 then sure do it. The guy says "Well we are having a sale right now for $15 off cabin air filter so it's only $60!". I started chuckling cuz I thought he was joking. Nope, that's just robbery lol.

Probably because they have a minimum shop time charge. You can get the OEM online fairly cheap and change it in about a minute.
