Hey guys, I was at the Detroit show yesterday. Of course I beelined straight to the back of the floor to the Toyota section. They had the TRD Pro Tundra, 4Runner and Tacoma's on display.

    20150114_135248_zps7c7a1fbc_87c40154cf885945c87a29816d02de6db3ff1b9f.jpg

They also had this beast Tundra fresh from a Baja 1000 win, despite the insane can opener damage.

I was bummed to find limited access to the NEW Tacoma's! The blue DC is up on a rotating platform; the khaki AC TRD is on the floor but locked up tight.

The bed of the new one appears to be the same as the 2nd gen (lined, outlet, storage, tie downs, et al.). Tailgate felt nice and heavy duty, and the soft open feature is cool. The khaki model was wearing 265/70R16 rubber. That khaki color is tough, IMO. Interior looks decent, definitely a huge upgrade over the current 2nd gen interior. I'd say comparable to my 2012 4Runner Trail, although I still prefer the 4Runner version. Wish I could have gotten into it though.

I wish that they would have stamped the TRD logos into the bedside like they do on the Tundra. That would have looked good next to the stamped tailgate. The red TRD stickers looked really cheap. Up front the plastic grill felt really thin and cheap. I don't understand why the front end is so long, there's about 18" of empty space between the grill and the radiator. Should be lots of room for hidden winch mounts, lol.

Overall the truck looks good, and like a nice update to the 2nd gen, even if many of us wish they had taken it further. I'll go drive one when they're in stores, but I don't plan to trade in my 4Runner any time soon.

No, sorry. I only had my cell camera on me, so I probably wouldn't have gotten anything useful anyway.

    Thanks for the pics.
The new model reminds me of an old 1980's Buick. Rememeber, those old body-on-frame cars that always looked like the body was just floating on top of the frame. The nose also seems soooo long, just like those old 80's boats. Coupled with the somewhat narrow height, the truck will take some time for me to adapt to.

So far, I prefer my 2013: Short, boxy, nimble... Classic Toyota.

Ya now that some time has gone by it's just the front end (jay Leno chin), headlights and grill I'm still not comfortable with. Everything else is fine..

No money, all went to truck...
seems like those are the only 2 trucks made so far? Is toyota still tweaking the details on the truck?

    That 4runner needs me. Bad

What is that big goofy plastic air dam under the front bumper? Is that only on the limited model?

They said the front grew 3" to meet new crash requirements, I think the same can be said for why all vehicles are getting bigger grille areas. It has to do with a Govt. requirement for impacts with pedestrians or something like that.
