I have a question about this, sorry if I missed this somewhere. But I also had the recall done and then installed my PRO OEM grill and garnish after. Someone told me that they can disable the sensor if they know you modded the grill or anything next time you come in for service. Has anyone experienced this?

I haven't done the recall as of yet, im hoping they come with a better solution other than adding a stupid piece of foam that will deteriorate over time, I can guarantee that.

I finally got around to trimming the garnish a little and it snapped in place and works great. Thanks @oldschool403

Crossposted this in another TSS thread:

Had mine in for its 10K service on Saturday, and the dealer wouldn't do the TSS recall because of my "oversized" tires (265/75/16), and no option for a waiver. :annoyed:

No biggie...I'll just put my stock wheels and tires on for its 15K service, since I'll need to rotate/balance anyway.

Self installed TRD Pro OEM grill, garnish, and wire harness.
    OEM suspension, wheels, and tires

    Recall service results:
Option 1- disconnect front sensor completely (dash light always on)
Option 2- perform no service, sign waiver
Option 3- sign waiver with addendum that I will restore OEM grill and return to have the TSB service performed.

I'm going with option 3. I was also told that any modifications to the ride hight would also require a waiver to be signed and service not performed. The service manager mentioned that there was a software update that would be performed, didn't mention anything about the foam pad.

Not thrilled about the situation. I just thought I would post this factual information about my particular experience.

I also chose option 3-had to remove my OEM Pro grill for them to do the recall, but they overlooked the 17’’ TRD Pro wheels and the up sized 265-70-17 tires. Its been my complaint from the beginning,no consistency from dealership to dealership.Very poor communication

Did you end up restoring the Pro grille after the recall service? Curious if that pad comes off easily to be used again on the Pro grille.

I try not to take it personally. A large part of their business deals with liability. I understand that they can only verify and proved that they have resolved the recall by applying the tested and verified good fix. It's not like I can demand that they test and verify that my specific variation, however common, is patched. This is assuming that the software and hardware are in fact different. If they are not different that's a different story.

Its just bad luck that the sensor designed for this truck had a flaw and the obvious design for the 3rd gen TRD trim grille was kept for the Pro trim.

That's probability the 2nd best looking grill after the pro. Definitely the route I would take if deciding not to go back to a Pro grill.

wow. All this for some piece of foam on the sensor? After reading all this, I'm surprised my dealer did the work on my custom grill.

I just had the recall performed after restoring the factory grille. It took them about 2 hours. There's now a foam piece on the backside of my sensor. After reading the TSB service instructions I came to the decision to keep the OEM 2019 OR grille and replace the chrome trim with the SR/SR5 black trim on the grille.

The recall instructions (found in a different thread) detailed the entire process for the foam piece. To put the OEM TRD Pro grille back on I would need to undo the work they completed by removing the foam pad. Order the correct pad for the Pro grille and apply it to the TSS sensor on my truck according to the instructions. The issues that had me concerned were that the sensors look slightly different on the Pro model than the OR/Sport model. My sensor also does not have the vent holes.

In the case that something were to happen or another TSS recall were to take place I would need to go through the same crap and duplicate their work in order for them to service it. IMO it's not worth the risk and my time to switch back to the Pro grille considering I have the TSS sensor. I will be putting my Pro grille up for sale for local pickup in TN.

I just got mine scheduled. I've had good luck with my dealer in the past so I'm hoping they do the work even with the different grille.

Dealer did mine with aftermarket TRD wannbe grill and all it was is cheap 1/4" self adhesive weather trim foam along top. Never had an issue now I've been in already once and keep getting "clean sensor" issues all a sudden.... going to have to take it back for a 3rd time now and hoping they just replace it. Never had an issue until they stuck foam on it....

Same exact thing happened to me but I never got it fixed. Now I just got another recall in the mail about the truck randomly shutting off while driving. Thanks for all these recalls

Ended up just peeling off the foam they added and reinstalled a thinner foam (same shit basically) but made sure it was stuck on better with no chance of the edges flapping anywhere near front of sensor and havent had an issue since this last post. Based on that, pretty sure they just slapped it on and didn't know that the slightest bit of poor placement would cause the issue. Resolved in my book.
