    Hey guys... guess what...!!

It seems that Toyota HAS got a little smarter...!!

I put on my winter tires yesterday....(no sensors)...and was expecting to get out the black electric tape and cover the freakin' dummy light...!! (I had to do that on my 2006 Taco...)

I did not get around to that and we went out tonight and the freakin' dummy light DID NOT COME ON.... WTF.... Wifey says.. "maybe Toyota got a little smarter..??

    Damn... I hope so...

The heads up display shows "--" for the tire pressure... good... NO damn yellow light in my face.... I love you Toyota...!! Bout time..

Don't waste $ on sensors for winter tires unless U want to..

So you have wheels on with NO sensors and NO warning or tpms light?

If so, how the hell is that possible?

AS stated... all I get is "---" for pressure on the Heads up.
I'll be damned if I know how they did that, but I'm extremely happy..!! Went into town last nite and back....50 kms +-.... still no light.

Maybe the Computer looks and says.. "I can't find them", and therefore does not show a low pressure that would trigger the light. Beats the shit outta me....My '06 showed the light as soon as I removed the wheels......

No need for the black tape now...Whoopeee.

That Threshold Of Low Pressure may be adjustable under Techstream.

Wait. But did you scroll to dfc253e7b1204c08781cb08ae95bad21_fb669dc347309539b5b2a003745a336272a611ef.jpg see how there's no read out for psi at each corner. If you have numbers at all four then you're driving around town with your old wheels in your truck bed or you never left the house lol.

Going to do wheels and tires next week at Discount tire. Swapping my new SR5 steels for TRD alloys. The guy at DT said that he was quite sure that the steel wheel sensors wont fit in the alloys so he ordered new ones "if" he needs them. Something about the stem angle that is different. Anyone got any insight? He's not going to charge me if he doesn't need the new ones.
Just curious about what I may be up against.

    Thanks,

    G.

I have read the same. When I did the same thing on my 2011, they could not get the aftermarkets to
sync up, so I was left the TPMS and had to see that annoying warning light until I traded it in.

Ok so if Discount wants to they can install the Steel Wheel sensor into the TRD alloy Wheels. I know this bc I'm the Wheel Guy lol. All they have to do is turn the Sensor 180 degree. Only down side is if they need to dismount tires in the future care is needed to avoid breaking the sensors since they stick out now. No big deal Phil. Done on my Tundra before.

2016 Tacoma. Now the guy at Discount sold me TPMS for 2005-2015 Tacoma for my 2016 claiming it will work. Wrong for now because he can't update" Scan" them into the truck Ecu. So after selling my tires and rim I've retrieved the 2016 TPMS and made them put it into my TRD 16"Beadlock. Yup 2weeks later and they still didn't have new updates for 2016 Tacomas.

So call and ask them to check on their scan tool if it's showing apps for 2016 first.

    Thanks, Tuna.

I had the dealer parts guy tell me the same thing. The guy at DT assures me he has the new software, but we'll see. Doing the change next week after my wheels get here.

Damn... I somehow knew it was too good to be true...... My damn TPMS light came on tonite on the way home. It's been off for 300kms or so since I took the tires off for the winter...I've started it numerous times too... Tonite it's snowing and slushy like hell... put her in 4x4 and went home and the light came on....

Guess I'm gonna do the black tape thing like on my'06.... RATS...!!

I don't know if Toyota changed it for newer models, but on the 2010, the TPMS light won't turn on for a bad or missing sensor until the truck has been driven for 20 continuous minutes at 5 mph or greater. That's what the service manual says, and I've tested and proven it.
