    You don't have to cut the rack, personal preference. Fits the lines of the truck better when trimmed down.

    A question to OP or anyone else who has repainted the TracRac they have. What is the best way to strip/sand the existing clear coat away? I just bought a used set and quite a bit of the clear coat is peeling away and I would love to sand it down to the aluminum, prime, and paint like the OP. I used a 300 grit sand paper by hand and it looks like it'll take all day if not more. Palm sander? A chemical to strip the clear coat? I am Googling on the topic, but no success yet... Thanks in advance.

    You could have it sand blasted. Did that to a set of used Tacoma wheels. Paint as per OP suggests.
