I don't understand how anybody gets the system to turn on under normal driving conditions where it is causing issues for everyone (other than when its lifted and needs recalibration) I want to be able to turn it off to play or when I drive aggressive.

    ABS killswitch mod.

    The end.

Did it a long time ago and haven't looked backed. Easily one of the best and most useful mods I've done.

That's not normal for everyone. People are saying "normal" as in dry pavement and they are having issues even before lift? I thought it went without saying that mud sand, and snow aren't normal driving conditions. At least for most people who don't live where we get feet of snow multiple times for half the year. I can tell you though that my new habit for winter will be holding that damn button down for 5 seconds! Haha

A little thread revival but I recently lifted my truck 6"s and my traction control also goes off easily. If I take any sharp turn even at 5mph, it will go off. Id like to keep my abs and do away with the traction control completely, possibly even keep traction control on a toggle switch. Any way to do this? Or do you lose both if you lose one? At the moment I have my ABS2 fuse pulled so I don't have traction control or abs. Any better way at going about this? Any input is welcome. I just rather have abs in an emergency but we don't really get snow where I live and I drive carefully, especially in rain so traction control isn't a NEED.

May not be exactly what you were looking for, but I used the BensonX method.

I leave it on most of the time, but it stays off through most of winter. It's nice to have it on a switch and is reversible.

The only way to turn " off " the VSC / Traction Control and keep ABS function is the push and hold the VSC button for 5 seconds while stopped gig , and you need to do that everytime you start the truck

Thanks for the input, Im just looking to keep abs.

Thanks for the input OZ, I could tell you didnt really care for this thread haha. But anyways, Im trying to avoid that. Could there be a way to wire that switch to where it is always off? Or impossible because it always has to be pressed in for 5 seconds? Anyway that it could be wired to where it senses being pressed in for 5 seconds automatically on start up? Im not great with wiring, just some ideas I had and Im curious if its possible.

If you are not handy with wiring why would you even think about messing with it? It's a complex system.

Only way to truly turn it completely off, is the abs killswitch. I know you said you don't want to lose ABS.. but its on a simple on/off toggle switch and can be flipped at anytime. I did mine about 2 years ago and haven't looked back. I keep it on (turning everything off) 90% of the time.. if I feel like I need the aids.. like in wet conditions.. I turn it all back on.

I have friends that are electricians and wasn't sure if they might be capable of coming up with something. Also friends that build jeeps/rat rods from the ground up. I know that this system is a lot more complex than wiring their stuff but if it could be done, they might could come up with a way.

I looked at that and to my understanding it isn't possible with a 2011 Trd off road with e-locker. Please correct me if I'm wrong but that would be a much better solution than what I have now.

Awesome! Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'll look into it again. Also, Josh, I love your truck! Mine looked almost exactly like it before I did the 6" lift, 35's, and XD Addicts. I had my lock rings plasti-dipped white on my TX Pro "beadlocks." Everyone says I should have kept the "beadlocks" because it matched the truck but I guess I was ready for something different and I have always loved the Addicts. Way down the road I might powdercoat the bolts on the Addicts white. Haven't decided yet.

After i lifted the truck with a toytec 3'' kit, i went to my dealership 3 times to get it recalibrated. they have the exact same procedures as the links on this forum, they even did a full reset and i still get the now and then "freak out for soccer mom shit" while taking a slightly downward curve at low speed...

one day i'll get into the wiring and bypass this crap...i love my tacoma but sometimes i miss my old dakota with his pure driving "no gimmick" handling...especially in the winter...

Won't be an issue soon enough. The autonomous car is coming, and it won't be optional when it does. You'll still be able to off-road, but getting there will be automatic pilot most of the way.

Enough really, really bad drivers on the roads these days that, to be honest, I think I'll breathe a sigh of relief (and disappointment) when that day comes.

Awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing the updates! Also, my wheel speed sensor or abs line (whichever it is) is rubbing the tie rod end. Anyway to keep that from happening and could that be what triggers the traction control? That wire being moved/rubbing?

Thread title sounds like 'Mama' from Waterboy (the movie)...

For a stock truck, the traction controls increase the Tacomas drivability off road over the previous open differential/ non TRAC Tacomas I drove.

The VSC prevents spin-outs and oversteer on wet roads, faster than the human can react. Sure I know how to counter-steer (I have been driving longer than a lot of you here)... but I am not fearful of technology when it works.

The ABS brakes on my 2005 were terrible, and I would stand with anyone who had that same experience... but the ABS on my 2010 is excellent and does not fail to slow the truck down on wet on gravel roads.

I wonder if I just got lucky with my 2010, or I am able to compare it to older Tacomas, as I had two before it? All three were 4WD Off Road TRDs (2001, 2005, 2010). I can outdrive in H4 to my previous trucks and even go in H4 where the other trucks required L4 and the locker... all because of TRAC. The L4 with A-TRAC is in a whole new league having traction control on the front (and rear) tires, that matches tire rotation. Only lockers can do that better.
