You ever had the chain stretch? I have 3 chains, rotate them as they get dull. One i couldnt get to tighten. I took off the cover and it was at end of the tension adjustment but still way loose. Swapped to a different one and it was able to tighten up. Side by side they look the same best i can tell, but on the bar its too loose.

 

They all stretch, I've never had one stretch so far I couldn't tighten it though

 

Yes it was weird to me also! I cant use it anymore. Next time i go to tractor place i have to buy a new one.

 

Was yours a name brand chain or a no name?

All I run is Stihl or Husqvarna chains.

Nothing much to add, except I became a beekeeper early this month. It's pretty cool, and so far I'm really enjoying it. Made a mistake early on, (surprise, surprise!) and left too much space between the frames after I removed the queen cage.

They built some wonky comb I had to scrape out. After less than 2 weeks they'd already begun to make some honey, so naturally, I ate it even though it was uncapped and probably high moisture content. It was delicious. The bees, on the other hand... were less than impressed. I felt bad but that small section of comb would have screwed up the whole hive if I'd left it. They've already rebuilt that section properly (read: built on the frame instead of bumped out)

On another note, a friend of mine has bees and said he's down to 5 hives this year. He usually has a lot more and said he'd be lucky to get 5 gallons of honey. He got 21 gallons last year

Since my welds weren't pretty enough to brag in the Welding thread, thought I'd post a little partially completed project here.

In March I added 3rd function setup and a grapple bucket for my Kubota after an ice storm brought down 14 trees on my property:



Before I always carried all my chainsaw related stuff in FEL bucket. So, I needed a 3pt carry all. About two weeks ago Titan Attachments (same co bought grapple from) sent email with 3 pt adapter on sale for $99. Turned out to be a good buy as it's 7/16". Crappy welds like all their stuff, but...



I had a piece of 2"x2" thick-walled tubing to mate with receiver:



I had some scrap square that already had holes, so I cut on side out so it would sit on top of the 2x2 tubing. Ignore left end angled up piece, it gets cut off:



Welded the square with cutout side to bottom brace for table and then bolted it together so I can use that 2x2 for other projects, like 3pt forks or something:



That's heavy gauge expanded and I folded it over and welded on sides and along all rails. Very little cross bracing needed when you do that.



Side rails are TBD but will be removable so I can use as a flat base when needed. Plus, it's already heavy and I'm getting older by the minute

 

I'll check it out! I expect zero honey this year, just hoping to let my one hive build out, one 10 frame deep brood box, one 10 frame deep honey super for the bees, queen excluder, then I'll slap a medium honey super on the very top once they outgrow theirs. That one's for me.

 

I ran three to four times a week two to three miles each time. At 63 I just can't do it anymore. I'm a bigger guy so it's pretty hard on me. Just got tired of things hurting, so I ordered a rowing machine. We'll see how that goes. How does this all tie into lawnmowers, chainsaws, and such. I assume some of you saw the post I made about cutting up some firewood my neighbor told me I could have. Well in the name of staying in shape I decided to forgo the log splitter, or maybe more to the point, to become it.
