    @Rising Eagle

What are 3/4 ton 6.7L F-250's going for there?

Ecoboost F-150's are more expensive than diesel F-250's here. I was at the stealership while they cleaned the one I bought. They had a new 3.5 Ecoboost Crew Cab short bed FX4 F-150 sitting next to a new F-250 6.7 diesel extended cab long bed FX4. The F-150 was $11k more... Trim package was Platinum on the F-150 and Lariat on the F-250. Basically the same minus a couple bells and whistles.

I bought my F-150 used with low miles and got it for a steal. My next truck will be a 3/4 ton diesel Ford.

I'm not sold on the Titan with the 5.0 cummins. I'm sure the motor would be fine but I'd be more concerned about the drivetrain behind it and in a few years, in true Nissan fashion I bet everything that can rattle will rattle. I've been in $16k Nissans and $40k Nissans and they both rattled like shit once then had 50k or more miles on them.

i've been on the I-8 with a couple of titan xd pro4x. I can never catch them and they look so good!.. I cannot find a pro4x trim but I may stop by the dealership to test drive the platinum.

@Mobtown Offroad Thanks for your insight.
The F250s are going for a pretty penny here, around $64k nicely equipped like a lariat package.

The Titan is priced around $43k after rebates, nicely equipped. I'm torn on the Titan, why I'm reaching out to you guys for your experience. I'm so fed up with the Tacoma's transmission anything is an improvement.

Do you think that 3 yr old Ford's are as nice and tight and rattle-free as they were off the line? I find they rattle as bad as the rest of the domestic offerings. I wouldn't say Ford is better than Nissan, if anything I'd give Nissan the nod. We all have different experiences though.

I own a Frontier Pro-4x, It's been flawless and I always look forward to driving it. It may be dated but the engine is phenomenal and the 6spd gearing is perfect. I'll be test driving a Titan Pro-4x 1/2 ton when the king cab is available but I'm not sure I can bring myself to buy it, I'm holding out for the 3rd Gen Frontier. One nice thing about the Titan is the 5 year 100,000mi bumper to bumper warranty.

No input on the titans of today. but I do know I hated my 04 frontier, our 08 frontier was ok, and our 2010 titan was a pile. rear end went out every year. wonder if the new ones put a full size diff in them.

Don't take this the wrong way, but are you sure you know where the gas pedal is? Ive done over 100 with about 1000lbs in the bed along with a RTT and can consistently cruise at 80-85 with the same gear load. I'm also running 285's and an auto.

Why are you having trouble maintaining 70mph?

As an accomplished racer on two and 4 wheels, I do know where the throttle and gas pedals are. I didn't say my Pro couldn't do 85 or that I had trouble maintaining 70mph. Where did you get that from?

I said, I was doing 75mph. I was uphill, enjoying myself. Titan came out of nowhere, puling weight.

I was just IMPRESSED by the Titan. I am not a Tacoma fanboy. I can appreciate a powerful truck, when I see one.

Oh good to hear. I've done racing on both 2 and 4 both off road and on road too.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm just so used to this forum saying Tacomas are junk I interpreted your post that way. Got it now. I agree with you then. :)

So your looking to buy your third new truck in 3-4 years because you don't like how the current one shifts? Guess I don't have any advice for that situation.

    Rising Eagle,

When/if you buy the Titan, I'd be curious to know how you like it compared to the Tacoma.
I've had the same problems with my 3rd gen, even after TSB implementation. I'll pick up a '17 next week (driven a Toy since '93) and hopefully I'll fall in love again. I seriously considered the Titan beforehand and didn't want to stomach the $59K.

Sounds about right. I found a few around here for mid $40k but they weren't fully loaded. Equipped enough for me though. Good luck on buying the Titan. Upload photos and videos!

When a vehicle is in its 2nd year of production and the manufacturer is offering those kinda rebates it tells you something. It tells me that they can't give these trucks away. On a side note, I wouldn't buy anything from where these trucks are built.

It's been speculation for years and is still speculation.

Because of the emission standards the diesel engines are going to be super expensive to repair. DEF is the devil for them. If you do it go gas.

Not at all actually. Nissan sales are WAY up. Even before the rebates. For some reason they have been selling incredibly well.

I didn't read the entire 3 pages so if this has been discussed I apologize in advance.

If I were you i would register on the titan forum and spend some time there reading about any issues/features/short comings etc In the past 3 years I have owned a 2014 Wrangler Wilys and a 2015 F150 v8 ... both have 100 plus page threads on complaints, features missing etc

I browsed this forum and few others before getting the Tacoma... I read the issues and still pulled the trigger on this one.

This was a rather long winded way of saying... NO car/truck is going to be close to perfect theses days. Something about the Titan will bother you.

ps I would get the Ram over the Titan :) imho

When in a driving situation where frequent tranny shifts become irritating, a shift down to S5 works for me. Still a fully 5AT truck with gear 6 as overdrive option. If I had an MT, I would be selecting M5 or M6 as appropriate in those same circumstances.

If I had to do things over though, I would go MT.

I did do the software update. Better than before but may not last.
