James- For a CB I'd suggest the Uniden Pro 520XL. Normally these sell upwards of $55. However, if you go to Frys.com you can order it for $45 and pick it up at the store in Industry. If you just walk into Frys and not buy it online they sell it for about $60. They sell antennas similar Firestik which look exactly the same and you can pick up the coax from them too while you're there. I've had problems with my CB for almost a year now and I can't figure it out. There's a good chance I can go but I'm ordering some new leafs from All Pro and to save from shipping I was planning on picking them up at their store in Hemet. That day might be the only day I can get out there.

Not a stupid question. The correct term for a race radio is 2 Meter or Ham radio. They run on higher frequencies then CB's and you get way more range out of them and they're much more reliable. They can be more technical too and you're supposed to get your ham license before you actually use one. On an average day you can get 30 miles of out them if properly tuned. With the use of repeaters you can get thousands of miles. I was talking to a lady in Alaska one time.

Off road racers use these type of radios hence the name "race radio."

If you buy everything new you can spend around $300, maybe a little less.

Like James mentioned, I have the IcomV8000. I bought used/new. The guy I bought it from installed it and never used it. New they go for $229 and I paid $150. You can buy them from the Ham Radio Outlet in Anaheim. $229 for the radio and if you get the Larsen NMO150BK antenna, that's another $55. Mount the antenna through your roof and you're good to go. Race radios are waaaaay better than CB's.

i dont think you technically need a license for a race radio as the frequencies are pre-programmed with certain business frequencies...

for the ICOM V8000, which is a 2 meter radio or HAM, you need a license...

the benefits of going HAM is that you will likely find more help if you ever get lost or separated from your group while out wheeling... with countless repeaters throughout the area, you can tap into all kinda folks out there...

the common frequencies used are 151.625, 153.110, and 151.750 so if your aerial radio can tap into those frequencies, then you should be good to go...

Hey fellas, bad news from my end. Too make a long story short, I cannot make it Saturday, I have a broken back. Now for the long story...

Well I have been working the night shift for a company that hangs Christmas lights and decorations at commercial locations. I work out of a boom truck similar to this one, height is about the same, give or take a foot...

Well, last Saturday morning (about 12:15 AM) I was finishing up a decoration on a light pole about 2 stories up when I heard a loud tire screech then I felt the crash. The arm whiplashed the bucket, sling shotting me out of it and my harness as if it weren't even on :/ Took a while, but I hit the ground. My whole body went numb, up to my neck. I thought I was paralyzed. Probably one of the scariest things. Well, luckily my feeling began to come back, LOTS of feeling ;) I was rushed to the hospital, turns out I broke the vertebrae 5 from the bottom, right below the rib cage (takes the most strain), bruised to shit tail bone, whiplashed neck, bent n bruised everywhere, etc.... You guys try taking a shit after falling on your ass like that hahahaha seriously :p

Turns out it was a 24 y/o guy driving drunk with his 21 y/o girl friend, also drunk, in his benz. They were driving between 90-100mph when they hit. Thing was recked! ;) Well, he is lucky he didn't kill her, my driver, or me... him.. eh. My driver road it out from the driver's seat. He just sat in the truck right before the crash, he is usually out by the cones like in the pic, woulda killed him. He is fine, as is everyone else. Bent the rear left leaf spring into an 'S' shape, no joke. Crazy! I intend on getting more pictures from my buddies phones ;)

Great, helpful, group of guys I work with, helped me out big time and I am thankful for that.

Sorry for the long post guys haha just sorta bed ridden, ain't much else to do. I expect pics and a full report of the trip!
