Yes, that's definitely a solution. You'll want a large flat washer and a standard M8 nut as the factory nuts don't have enough of a flange on them. The factory nuts also have a gap before the threads start, so you can't use a flat washer with them. There isn't enough stick out on the threads once the skid is in place.

I have been meaning to cut the slots as an option for the OR trucks, but the router I use is out of commission right now.

Cool cool well I think I'll be bugging you for a skid this summer then. Thanks for the quick response.

Also, I followed your flatbed build from the start, sick ass truck!

These work great! Pay no attention to the drive-shaft though.

Got it installed. Had a couple of issues to deal with; 1st was the front pin was a bear to get pulled out:

    IMG_0484.jpg

then had a challenge getting the driver's side rear buckle to get up off the spring - fixed that by putting some zip ties on to hold it absolutely tight against the strap bracket, that gave me just enough room to clear it.

I also installed the front bolts with the nuts on top so there is a little bit less sticking out below. Didn't get a picture of that though.

Overall, I'm happy and glad I got it.

Hey Jimbow, next time you go to pull the pins make sure you loosen the corresponding bolt on the drives side. That will give you enough slack to pull the pin out easily. I'm glad you're happy with the skid.

As far as the leafs contacting the buckle, that's a new one on me. Typically there is a good amount of clearance back there. Maybe it's because most of the trucks that have run my skid have some sort of aftermarket leaf pack. Yours looks like the TSB pack, right?

Would anyone that's running the stock leafs, or the TSB leafs, post up on the clearance to the buckle? I would hate to see the leafs come in contact with the buckle. I may need to look into a different solution for that if it does hit. Pay attention to it and let me know if you notice any contact marks on the buckle.

Not a TSB leaf pack, stock 2015 4x4 base model. If I put more air in my Firestone's that would give me more clearance but I normally run them between 5 - 10 psi and any more makes things too lively when unloaded.

I had the front strap bolt all the way out, but my jack support board was probably negating that.

It went on in the end, didn't break anything on the truck or me, and didn't have to exercise the extended vocabulary.

that is a first i think ive seen with the leafs. I think most if not all of Nathan's purchasers have had aftermarket springs. You can always use extra long zip ties in place of that location's strap and buckle to keep it in place. Im sure it will be strong enough to hold up this skid. I actually have one side of my front ap skid held up with zips because i failed to replace the lost bolts :p

    From @SMKYTXN

Well, it looks like everyone will be receiving their skids today, unless you're in Canada.

    Install instructions:

    1. Support your gas tank with a floor jack. You'll want to use a 2x4 or something to spread the load over the tank. Don't just rely on the foot of the jack to hold it up.
    2. There are two pins holding the gas tank straps on the passenger side of the tank. Remove them one at a time and slip the flat hook over the top of the strap and reinstall the pins.
    3. Remove the rear strap bolt on the driver side and bolt in the anchor bracket.
    4. Hold off on attaching the front driver side anchor bracket for now.
    5. Position the skid under the truck. The "Trail Toys" logo should be facing down.
    6. Place the two supplied bolts and fender washers in the cross member in front of the gas tank and loosely attach the front of the skid.
    7. Attach the three cam buckle straps. There will be excess strap material that you will have to trim once all straps are tight. Leave enough excess so that you can adjust the straps later on.
    8. The thinner strap and plastic buckle will be the last strap to be attached. You'll want to thread the strap through the buckle, then the anchor. It's easier to thread it through and then bolt the anchor to the strap.(The plastic buckle is used on the front driver side attachment point, see picture below)
    9. Make sure to place all buckles as high up as possible to avoid any interference issues.
    10. Tighten all straps
    11. Tighten the front bolts
    12. You're done.

If you guys have any questions please let me know.

    Thanks

    Nathan

Just a little update on the instructions. The plastic buckle was swapped out for the cam buckle due to the cam buckle sticking down below the skid. Use the plastic buckle for the forward driver side attachment point.
