Trail Toys UHMW Gas Tank Skid

I saw the guy that made them said the crossmember for the long bed was 8” further away so i guess just cut off 8”.

 

Are we going to get a restock on the DCLB's anytime soon?

Just found this thread from a cross-post elsewhere on TW forums.

2014 AC TRD-OR w/ stock fuel tank skid. Interested to maybe add this TrailToys UHMW skid but not interested in the blue color. OP, pls. bump this thread if/when black color comes back into stock. My use-case is mainly forest trails & occasionally some brush/scrub driving, i.e. over open fields with low woody brush (~1 to 2 feet high,) with stiff wooden branches wanting to poke into things.

I also have Deaver U402 springs & noted someones issue & solution a few pages back re: zip ties to prevent the Deaver cross-bar dealy from rubbing on the UHMW skid.

 

Just a heads up:
1. Very much doubt that this will happen regarding the change in color, the new polymer that they use that gives it its strength is blue in color.
2. Since I have installed mine, I have never seen it without purposely getting underneath my truck. You can not see it at all without getting underneath the truck and looking up at it. It will not make a difference whether it is blue or black.

 

You can probably paint it too. Or just apply mud...

 

Paint is really not going to stick to it and even if it does it will get scrapped off very easily. You are correct though with the mud .....

 

Hmm. How much lift do you have on your Taco? I have the normal ~2.25" or so, front & rear.

Any chance you or others with the blue-color skid installed can take a variety of photos from normal viewing positions to the side (inc'l say, 15-30 feet away, like across the street, which would be a pretty low viewing angle)? I just don't want any gaudy blue bits showing under the truck.

 

Paint might work, maybe the Krylon "Fusion" rattle-can product which is designed to bond to plastics. Or any number of other specialty paints that are specifically formulated for polyethylene surfaces. I don't care if the paint scratches off here and there, so long as >95% of the thing stays the black-matte I would probably paint it with.

 

He could cover the whole thing with electrical tape

 

That would add about 83 lbs to it though lol

Thanks, those are very clear & low-angle and totally convincing. I can't make out the UHMW skid at all.

Yeah, you won't see it unless you go looking at the bottom of the gas tank.

 

This is a great product! Light weight protection that is rustproof.
I did change the straps. Nothing wrong with the original. They are very high quality.
I just wanted easier cinching in the confined areas. I went with these and they are still holding up just fine 7 years later. Over-center locking.
