That's a super-clean install! Did you use the provided well-nut and screw to secure the Spetrum base plate to the cubby blank? Or the adhesive?

Also, are you satisfied with the controller?

A few questions about this wiring diagram.

I assume my 2019 TRD OR with tow package has this adapter harness under the dash, correct?

If I'm wiring a Curt Spectrum controller, I just need to get the Tekonsha Toyota pigtail (3030-S)? Then I can splice the Spectrum controller wiring harness directly to the Tekonsha plug? Because Pin 8 already has the fused battery feed? Or do I need to add a separate 30 amp fuse from the battery to the controller?

Edit: Never mind. Curt also offers a wiring harness for the Spectrum unit for complete plug and play connection (PN: C51455).

The picture I posted wasn't of my truck however it's installed in the last empty rocker switch panel, left of the steering wheel. I'm right handed so mine will be installed in one of the empty switch panels in the center. Like this one. I have yet to install one because I haven't purchased a larger trailer with electric brakes.

I am a big Tekonsha fan, I have always used their controllers. In my '17 Tacoma I installed a P2 in the cubby (see picture). I used a 3017 harness but that has now been superseded with the 3031 (additional ground wire). I chose the P2 over the P3 for the smaller size and lower current requirement for the display.

Here is my install of the Curt Spectrum controller. I wanted the brake controller to look stock in the interior. I thought this matched the best. I still have a little more work to do with the wiring and trimming the mount. The trim ring is about 1mm too large for the opening and doesn’t seat perfectly on the blank.

Also, the plastic used for the blank isn’t as nice as the OEM stuff. But unless you’re looking, you can hardly tell the difference.

Nice job...like with most DIY projects, you will be your own harshest critic...i think it looks good.

26282C12-A321-4B69-9877-37A34F065B52.jpg I followed your lead. I sanded the 1mm to fit flush and left room for a switch. I mounted to the left to see it better around the steering wheel.

Just wondering why no love for the Tekonsha Primus? I only have one trailer with electric brakes so it seems like a good basic way to go?

That sure looks clean. I guess when my seven-year-old prodigy 2 dies I'll look to replace it with that...

Because I wanted the install to look as close to stock as possible.

I did finally find the plug behind the kick panel (took two tries.) Waiting for the delivery of the Tekonsha P3 and the ESP mounting bracket for the cubby. I do know that somewhere on TW there are directions on how to remove the change cubby to the left of the steering wheel without removing the whole panel, because I’ve had it out and I know I didn’t pull the panel. Anybody know where to find that post? I tried searching every configuration of “change cubby” I could think of to no avail.

Although I appreciate the video for how to remove the panel if it should come to that, I’m trying to remember how I got the cubby out before without pulling that panel and disconnecting all the switches..

Do the 19s come with a factory trailer brake controller?

My ford work truck has a factory controller as part of the tow package. It works well too.

I just purchased and installed a Tekonsha Primus IQ controller in my 2011. I chose the spot just below my left-side change pocket, although I'd have preferred where the pocket itself is. At any rate, it doesn't get in the way of my leg, I can see it when driving, and it's easy to reach while driving if I need to manually apply the trailer brake. It doesn't affect the hood release, but sits right next to it.
I ordered the Tekonsha two connector harness for it as well. It was plug and play; took 15 minutes to decide where to put the controller and actually mount it, and another 10 minutes to fish out the factory harness connector and plug the thing in and hide the extra wiring. Taking the drop-down change pocket out made that job a snap. Hooked up the trailer and drove down the road a ways to set the basic power level for braking.DSC00632.jpg DSC00634.jpg
