Are you sure it's a factory "tow package"? Do you have a 4 pin or a 7 pin connector?

As far as I'm aware, the first gen tacomas never came with a factory 7 pin tow package. Some came with a bigger fan/radiator, and a hitch, iirc. Imo, a "tow package should have a brake controller, and power, too). Most of the "tow packages" I've seen are basically just a hitch and a 4 pin connector.

Are you talking about the trailer's running/side marker lights? Those are powered by the truck's running lights, and aren't independently fused. The only thing that's fused independently is the power wire on a 7 pin connector.

Hitch and 4 pin connector.. none of the trailer lights come on. At all. First time I’ve tried to use it, tbh. If I have to run the wiring, fine, but it just seems odd that I would have to.

I'm betting the converter box is bad. Pretty common issue.

Are you getting voltage at the plug pins? If not, trace the wires until you do get voltage. If you have voltage at the plug, you probably just have a dirty plug/bad connection. Clean it and put some dielectric lube in there. You might also have a bad ground either on the plug harness or the trailer itself.

This is basically what I have, so if all else fails, this is a super easy install...

This might even be what you have now.
