    For those that have relocated the trailer plug into their stock rear bumper. Is the factory wiring harness long enough? Also, what size hole saw did you use to cut the hole?

    I have seen a bracket that is made to relocate the plug under the truck. I do not wish to go that route.

    No hole saw needed.

    Simply remove the driver side license plate light, and with some very minor trimming of the plastic on the backside of the plug you can get it to sit flush on the bumper. 2 small holes, 2 small bolts and lock nuts and boom, factory looking location up and out of the way.

    Cost = 1.50 for the 2 nuts n bolts.

    I thought about using the light hole. I should have - the plug blocks the light anyway. 2" hole saw. wiring was plenty long, but I had to cut and solder my ground as it was rusted to the frame. I'm sure I'll have to replace the whole pigtail before long.

    Still leaves the plug vulnerable just not as much as before.

    I don't know where you live but a fix it ticket is not worth it.

    Thanks for the information. I may do what you did but add another type of license plate light.

    The license plate still has a light on it from the passenger side and is lit up just fine.

    and worst case if you feel its too dim with the stock light a brighter LED light in the passenger side one or some license plate bolt lights for 10 bucks on ebay.

    Also i didnt like the idea of of turning the harness facing straight down its still vulnerable, way more exposed to the elements as well. Also with an adapter plugged in or a harness to a trailer the wires hang WAY down and could drag really easy.

    not as much as you would think. it sits higher than the hitch, the spare tire, the leaf spring knuckles, pretty much everything around it. and as said before, if you're THAT concerned its going to get ripped off from wheeling, you probably shouldnt be running the OEM bumper anyways. if the bumper hits the ground, its gonna crumple like tin foil

    because.... 1, like stated it still has the harness located down in the elements, faces the wiring straight down which makes things prone to dragging. and 2. THATS AN EXPENSIVE PIECE OF METAL! 1.50 for 2 bolts n lock nuts and you can pop it in the already made hole in the bumper.

    Yes. I think it was the door knob one, but it was (6) years ago so I don't remember. Real easy to do and cost nothing. I made a gasket to sit between the bumper and the 7-pin bracket. Zero maintenance mod. Works great.

    In Maryland I would not be surprised if you still got pulled over for that.

    ^Plenty of vehicles come with just a single license plate light, and it isn't any brighter than the single one on the Taco.

    With how factory looking putting the trailer plug harness in the driver side light spot.... if an officer did pull you over i doubt upon further inspection he / she would ticket you, unless they knew the truck and were super dickish.

    I relocated mine into the bumper. I just liked the look. Why Toyota mounted it under the bumper I don't know.

    I think I paid $60 for my bullaculla, small price to pay for a nice clean quality piece that keeps the plug protected.
