I perused the forums in TOWING and none seem to deal with my issue. I hooked up a Tekonsha electric brake to the factory harness in the driver's wheel well. I connected the 7 pin from my trailer to the Factory tow outlet at the back. Brake unit under the dash reads "c" - connected. So far, so good! Turned on the truck's running lights...Nuthin'...AND now the brake box reads "n.c."...not connected. HUH? Any guidance here would be muchly appreciated

I always tell people to check the ground first.

Years ago with a u-haul, I used a separate ground wire with clamps on each end, one to the frame of the truck, one to the frame of the trailer.

Thanks Killo...I circuit tested the truck outlet plug and all lines lit up when they should (as they should with factory install :)). I'm in the process of re-grounding the gnd line at the trailer plug.

So, I tried Killo's ground technique as a temporary by-pass and it worked!. After that, I ran a second line from the ground pin on the trailer 7-pin connector to the trailer frame (drilled hole, ring connector to trailer end of wire & a metal screw). taped it all up in a more permanent manner and all's well

Glad it worked out, I've seen it a lot.

Years ago a co-worker made removable trailer lights for his boat, on a 2x4 so he could just leave them in the truck, and keep the lights out of the water. He asked me to take a look, he didn't even have a ground wire at all, and he worked at a power plant making electricity for over 25yrs. Taking basic electronics in high school has paid off many times over the years.
