My wife & I are heading up to Pinetop Thursday morning to get out of the heat for a couple of days. Does anyone have a favorite or cool trail they can recommend? Nothing crazy. Maybe a cool scenic fire road...

I have a couple of AZ 4 Wheel trail books but the Pinetop area is slim pickins. I have an old Az Atlas & Gazetteer which I plan on using and is handy.

I enjoy going out to reservation lake and even further back to pacheta lake. Nothing crazy in terms of off roading but very scenic. You could probably make a day out of it, as it is a ways out there but worth it. Maybe @snowtank knows of some trails.

There is nothing in pinetop except the 300 road. The road kyle recommended is good. Also back past big lake to the east fork of the black river. Or just exploring around greenspeak area is cool with allot of different options

    Right on guys, thanks.

Those are a little farther out... There are a couple of dozen or so fire roads around Pinetop & McNary I can recon.

    Where is the 300 road?

The 300 rd starts just east of pinetop before the rez. On your right. I think like red fox road leads to it. If you take penrod rd between pinetop and wagon wheel you can head back into the woods from there. Lots of trails and area to explore aswell and will pop out on the 60 eventually or up near pinetop country club aswell.

The rim road is fun, but the trails east of Pinetop are better. This one goes to Green's peak, and you stay off the rez. FR 96 is awesome.

Great FR that goes from Eagar and pops out at Nutri at the crest and works it way down.

And if you make it to Alpine, definitely check out the Blue. Beautiful drive with lots of wild life, river/creek, and red cliffs like Sedona. Be sure to eat at Bear Wallow Cafe.

If you keep going east, you'll go through Luna which is beautiful and will go over a killer mountain pass into Reserve, NM. If you stop there, eat at Ellah's Cafe and order either the smothered green chile breakfast burrito. Or shredded beef and green chile burrito.

Used to live in Pinetop, had a route that went east, and rode my dual sport Honda on pretty much every FR imaginable.
