Once again I am calling on the tw collective wisdom. I bought a new lowrance elite hdi to put on my 16 ft aluminum fishing boat. I am getting a ton of feedback on the screen up to 4 feet deep which is a problem on the Texas flats because it's only 8 feet deep in the deepest parts. Anyways here are a few pictures of the mounting. Does the ducer have to be below the bottom of the boat? What about angle. Its slightly nose up by like 1/8 of an inch.

My humminbird ducer, the instructions have me mounting it so the very bottom of the ducer is just a bit below the very bottom of the hull/transom. It's is perfectly level and I guess this is very important as it was quite a process to get that figured out. Also make sure there are no chines, rivets or anything on the hull that are in line with the ducer as that will make a big difference.

The pics were too dark for me to see.
    Transom mount?
A transom mount should be flush w/the hull. looking forward it should be on the right hand side of the transom(starboard side).
There should be no turbulence in front of it. Air bubbles will give you bad readings.
If there is a slight gap-put some silicone to fill. be sure it will not create bubbles in front of the Xducer.
    You can PM more pics.

If the xducer is above the bottom of the hull-it will not have good contact w/the water when running at higher speeds.
Engine turbulance -air bubbles from the prop-can give bad readings too.
    Does this info help???
My knowlege is from long ago-do not think that the info or applications have changed.
    what do the "instructions" say?
Do not redrill new holes--we can fix the current location.
Lowering seems like the correct fix. Does the bracket have adjustments?

thanks for the info. I had to drill new holes as I ran out of adjustment but I got it dialed in pretty good. That last picture is pretty nearly what it looks like. It wont really hold a good bottom running WOT but at a slow run on plane it works pretty good. I doubt it would hold on this boat anyways. any further to the outside and I start having to deal with corner wake and somehow avoiding destroying it when I load. I am not going to be looking for fish if i am running at 30mph anyways

Glad to help-if you have any more questions-shoot me a PM.
Sometimes when running WOT there are air bubbles created by the bottom of the boat-especially from the rivets and or dings or dents. that will cause false or bad readings.
Agree- when running fast-you are not looking for fish.(most of the time)
    HOW'S FISHING??????
    What part of VA?
I am in E.TN-we have the TVA lake system here.
Have not been boating for a couple years-Damn boat is sitting in the yard--Waiting for a NEW PRESIDENT-will not contribute to the economy while he is still in office-Fuel prices should and will retun to two bucks if we get a president that HAS ANY BRAINS.
    I run a Jet boat w/a 468ci-It is THIRSTY.
It only has two speeds-STOP and WOT-LOL
Fun as shit-going slow is not an option.

I am actually stationed down in TX right now. Haven't really kept my stuff up to date as far as internet things go. I did live in Wise, VA for a bit, you may know where that is from being in east TN. FSR is an awesome band btw. But around those parts I fished the clinch river a lot for smallies and then hit up all the lakes and such for bass. If you ever get the chance to go to bear tree (?) lake and bass fish do it. There is a sand bar straight across from the dock near some really big rocks that you can hop across if you are gazelle like. That lake holds some monsters. I caught a 10lb bass off that bar when it was guarding its nest. Probably not there anymore unfortunately because most people keep fish from there.

This whole saltwater thing is driving me crazy. Went out a few nights ago and absolutely slayed the reds and trout on the light. Took my roommate out tonight to do the same thing and couldnt get a damn fish to bite. Completely skunked in 5 hours of fishing. I cant seem to figure them out

Have you tried playing with your frequency? My understanding is that one frequency setting is for water above 15 ft, the other is for water under 15 ft.
