Hello all, Just found out from my mechanic that my transfer case is shot. Can anyone recommend a good source for a replacement. i am not opposed to remanufactured although pricey, still a possibility. used would be a better option. Are there any good and reputable toyota yards that i can contact to get the case I need. I have a 2003 tacoma 2.7 5 speed with what i believe to be a manual shift case with ADD front axle . Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ray M.

Can yours be rebuilt? I would contact Marlincrawler.com They can help for sure. Just an option.

I don't know for sure from what I understand the rear seal went and the heat from it spidered the case itself. I have not seen it for myself yet. I am waiting for a call back from my mechanic.

You could always grab a second hand transfer case . There are hundreds to choose from. Craigslist , E bay etc etc . Look here at TW in the buy and sell category . Toyota transfer cases for the most part hold up fairly well and are relatively cheap to buy

I'd find a good company that sells remand cases with some well thought of "upgrades" for weak point elimination. Depending on your truck and your uses may be worth the extra $. I plan on keeping mine for a very long time and believe in a little overkill from time to time. :D

I would source one locally through a salvage yard or ebay or something. Sending it off to marlin will be $$$ in shipping alone from NJ. www.car-part.com is what i use to look in salvage yards for parts. I paid $200 for mine (stripped out the input on my stock one after a bad crawler install) and that seems to be the going price for one. Too bad you don't have a 3.4 because i have a tcase sitting in my garage that I cant sell. The 2.7 and 3.4 have different spline counts on the tcase input (2.7 is 26 spline and 3.4 is 23 spline) and they are NOT interchangeable. Auto or manual does not matter. I don't know how easy it is to swap the input gear off your current tcase onto a new one if you can only find v6 cases.

Let me know if you want to buy mine and be the trail blazer on swapping input gears!!

The only real weak point of these cases are the tiny input shaft, other than that they are supposed to be some of the strongest stock cases made by toyota internal wise(read that on marlin crawler.com from the man marlin himself).

Thank you , To all those who replied. found myself a used transfer case and put it in with some help. The person who helped me happened to be looking for the exact model Tacoma that i had for his son and after a little bit of negotiating he is now the proud owner of this truck. Having realized that the extended cab was to small to accommodate my growing kids I have begun the search for a first gen double cab. This may take a while but i am not in a big rush.

Once again Thank You for your help. Ray M.
