So I've been looking around for ideas for a transfer case skid with my current skid plate setup. My current setup, made by Ryan(isu2014), covers part of the transfer case. Here is a link to the current group buy for these skids. I've been looking at the Trail gear one and Skid Row's transfer case skid but I also ran across all pro's transfer case skid. I don't know that the skid would offer much real protection other than scrapes like the stock skid does with the way it's designed. I'm not a fan of all pro stuff but I figured I'd listen to other people's input on the skid. Anyone run the all pro skid? How do you like it? How has it held up? Any other vendors that sell transfer case skids? I'm also thinking extra protection with my current setup may not be necessary. Any thoughts are welcome.

    My current setup:

The problem with a skid that is directly attached to the transfer case it's self is that the transfer case still takes the hit, whether there be a skid there or not. Sure it may help a bit on some things, but when you really need it... It'll screw ya.

The stock one I would say is the best out of the ones that bolt to the transfer case because it has some give in it if you hit somethin hard enough

That's what I was thinking. Mostly protection from scrape but if you land on a rock or somehting it will likely cause damage to the transfer case. The skid attaching the frame would definitely be ideal.

    Yeah, that makes sense.

Any t-case skid that bolts directly to the t-case is fubar.
A broken t-case housing would bring deh suck.

I have AP front and intermediate skid plates
but for the t-case... Budbuilt sells a bolt-on that works similarly

A small handful of select mods.
Personal experience with this "shield" on my 2nd gen ended in a broken T case cover and a $250 flat bed tow home. Do not invest in this junk. You need to find a full skid that mounts to the frame and the cross member not to the t case itself.

I have these ones bookmarked: http://www.skidplates.com/TCase_95_Tacoma.asp

They're right near my brother so he could pick them up and ship them to me for a helluva lot cheaper.

But I think 45acp is bringing me a budbuilt belly pan.. should cover the transfer case, right?

That's what I was thinking, I'd figured I'd ask to see what other's though as well lol.

I like that setup, seen your thread before :) I wish I had the know how and the tools to fabricate like that. Maybe one day lol.

I shall stay far away from the all pro "skid" then!

I was actually looking at the Skid Row skid too and that is what I'm leaning towards. The Budbuilt belly pan would cover the transfer case too but I doubt it is compatible with my skids I have currently.

Take a look at Skid Rowe Automotive.

    http://www.skidplates.com/TCase_95_Tacoma.asp

My 96 tacoma was the truck they used to prototype the skid plate. Mounts on the frame and you can add a engine skid that goes up to the front of the truck. It's thick and beefy!!

Yeah, Skid Row makes some great skid plates. I was going to buy their front and transmission skid until the prices went way up. I've been leaning towards their transfer case skid but I was looking for more options, especially cheaper ones lol.

I made my own. I made a crossmember for the rear and then attached the plate to it and the factory crossmember. Then I welded square tubing to the plate to beef it up a little.

That looks good! I think a custom transfer case skid will be the way for me to go.
