Owner of 2nd Gen TRD Off-Road model...

Looking for a definite answer when it comes to what type of transmission fluid these trucks use... I have read conflicting things during my research. The questions I have are...

Is the fluid something that needs to be made by and ordered from Toyota directly or is there a transmission fluid that can be bought at your local auto-part chain store?

If it is a Toyota specific fluid, where can it be purchased either online or in person?
If another generic fluid can be used that you can find in a chain store, what make & type am I looking for?

Thank you to everyone in advance for any advice you can offer me..

Just a quick note. If your truck has less than 100k miles. If you have a dealer do a flush(had mine done at 90k, must done by 100k) and then have the dealer flush every 30k Toyota will cover transmission.

Read up on it, but as for parts.

4 liters (quarts??) of Toyota WS, stick oem.
2 crush drain plug gaskets, one is for the drain, one is for the check plug.

There's youtube videos on how to set it. Watch them.

Your manual states what type fluid to get. Assuming it says WS fluid, then any manufacturer that shows it is WS compatible will work. Valvoline MaxLife is one such aftermarket vendor. I have it in all my Toyota products except the new RX350. The Valvoline is compatible with WS and Type IV. Even Walmart's SuperTech ATF is now WS compatible, but I trust Valvoline a little bit more and will generally recommend them over SuperTech. That being said, if your truck is still under warranty, I would suggest you stick with Toyota WS ATF just to be on the safe side as far as warranty claims go.

There are a number of different types of ATF available, each formulated for specific transmissions. Your manual that came with your truck will tell you what you need. Welcome to TW!

Do a search on TW. The Toyota Auto Trans Fluid recommended for 2nd gens is know as WS (world standard). That being said a lot of people (myself included) use Valvoline MaxLife.

The same shit everyone else has.
If it’s an auto, do what everyone said.

    If it’s a manual, use MT90
