Thanks for this. It worked in that I'm getting a reading, but I'm a little bit suspicious of the data.

Idk these trans run hot. Could be 56 thousand degrees in that pan.

Maybe, but in this case it was user error. I rechecked my equation and found a mistake.

However, I'm curious how we know this is accurate. After my 20 minute drive home the temp was 194F. How much higher is that going to go when towing up a hill? I think I read that less than 220 was ideal so that doesn't leave much room.

What is the A and B from the sensor and what is the math behind that equation?

Depends on your load, but I can hit 240* at an idle on super hot summer days here. I think that’s pretty accurate. Keep in mind, Toyota wants to keep it that high for mpg, there’s an actual trans warmer back here that uses engine coolant to keep it warm.

I can confirm that these worked for me on an Iphone with the OBD Fusion app. I've seen variations of the equations on here, make sure that there are not spaces in the equations. I used the VeePeak OBECheck BLE+ Bluetooth 4.0 along with OBD Fusion.

I have some questions for you all now. I had a 600 mile drive to get back to my folks over the weekend and I had pretty consistent temps. The temp at the torque converter spiked up to 221 at one point during an uphill slog then immediately dropped back down to the 192 range. See the below screen shots that I took. My question is I was under the impression that engine oil temps should be higher than transmission temps for the most part. After I got going and on highway speeds for this trip, both temps hung around the 192 range almost always.

Also, for my above post. I installed a Hayden 699 cooler. On this trip every time I stopped (as this was the first big drive with the new cooler installed) I checked the lines running to the the radiator cooler and then out to my new Trans cooler. Only the line going into the top of the radiator cooler was warm to the touch. Everything else was cool to the touch and the 699 never got warm at all.

On the way back I'll be pulling a small cargo trailer totally about 4000 - 4500 lbs total weight. I'll post updates of that drive, especially the long slog up HWY 80 to Donner pass.

Below are a few pics from my install. Sorry, photos were kind of an after thought. I found a way to not have to drill any new hole. I used the two holes for the horn mounts and placed brackets from the mounting kit there. Then I used some of the foam that came with the cooler and placed that between the cooler and the Taco frame on the 'bottom' of the cooler to prevent rubbing and rattling. I was able to use two holes that already existed by adding a large washer for one bolt and one of the mount holes from the old transmission cooler reusing that bolt from the original cooler.

I mounted it vertically so that I could best use the bypass of the cooler since it is by-directional flowing. IMG_3601.jpg IMG_3605.jpg IMG_3607.jpg IMG_3608.jpg
Last shot is just for a size comparison.

Can the transmission temps be monitored with Carista?

Sorry, 15 bucks. Apple Store. Seems like by the description it needs to be the paid version.

Unless I am using the wrong app.

Fusion is free, but you need to buy year specific Toyota PIDs. You can use generic OBD2 PIDs, but not all of them are working.
We paid $10 4 years ago for them.

Hi I tested it today and the solid D turned on at 97.2 F and start blinking at 115.2 F. Do I need to change something or this is just right? Manual says D turns on at 95 F and blinking at 113F thanks.
