transmission rattle

    my 2012 Tacoma just started rattling from the rear of the transmission where the drive shaft meet.. it rattles when its in neutral/park [​IMG]

    The rattle is coming from the catalytic converter, on the right rear side... took the exhaust apart and there it was ... now it’s time to buy a new one

    Is it just a heat shield? Lob it off and throw it out!

    @Bishop84 not it’s the catalytic converter... I guess the honey comb in it went bad, it’s just hanging loose in there and that’s what’s making the rattle

    Easy but crazy expensive to replace!

    I would try to remove it and see if you can bang out the loose bits.

    There was a recall on these cats for that very issue on the 2TR-FE 4 cylinder engine.

    2012 was one of the years as mine was replaced. Call the dealer and have it looked at.

    @Jimmyh i have 4.0L, does the recall also cover the V6 models

    Man that sucks. It might just be the heat shield though. If not sometimes they come up for sale pretty cheap on here.

    I’m going to try searching for some to see if I find some for cheap if not I’ll just go with a test pipe for now
