I have had a 2013 Double Cab Tacoma for about 8 months , 23,000 miles. It is a 5 speed automatic transmission. I notice a lot of resistance in the transmission even when driving in Overdrive (5th gear) and I get a loud whirring noise, when I turn the key off, from the passenger side of the engine compartment. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Other than those 2 problems, it seems to be a pretty nice little truck.

The truck is still under warranty and the dealer says the noise is normal. As irritating as that noise is, that's just hard to believe. Can't believe I wouldn't have noticed it on test drive. I have narrowed it down to the smog pump but the dealer stills says it's normal. I've always owned Chevy trucks. This is my first Toyota. Expected more, with Toyota's reputation.

All 2013 and 2014's have that noise at shut off. It is the smog pump. I don't have anything to offer about the transmission issue.
