I have a 2014 Supercharged TRD Sport with the 6 speed transmission. 186 000 Kms on it. Was running a light weight fly wheel and stage 3 clutch. That I got from URD. Started experiencing a bit of a shutter a few years ago when engaging the clutch.. this was particularly bad in reverse. Took it into the dealership they said it was fine.. Then a couple months back it also started intermittently becoming very difficult to shift into first, second and reverse. Two weeks ago started hearing some squeaking sounds coming from the transmission.

Took it into my local shop they said my bell housing was broken. I replaced the bell housing, throw out bearing, and put in a new stage three clutch. Also switched back to an OEM fly wheel. 3000 + dollars later and only about another 1000 km driven, now the vehicle is again becoming difficult to shift gears.. ‍♂️sometimes it just doesn’t want to go into reverse at all. Today I was on a hill stopped, I depressed the clutch and the vehicle didn’t roll, with significant effort and a big clunk I put it into neutral and then it rolled down the hill. Previously when I depressed the clutch it was just like you were in neutral. That’s not always the case now.. Does anybody have any ideas on what’s wrong with my truck?? ‍♂️

Also I hear a little bit of strange sound when engaging the clutch, I didn’t hear that before on my last clutch. And this afternoon I heard that exact same kind of grindy type of sound when I started the vehicle.

First of all Welcome to the Forum!!
I'm a bit curious about your statement that you replaced the bell housing because you would have had to disassemble the entire transmission starting at the rear. And if you disassemble to the transmission it would seem reasonable with that kind of miles on your truck to spec the internals and at minimum do the bearings and syncros.

If you have been plowing shifts the 6-speed has a few of its shift forks made from cast aluminum and are known to bend rather too easily IMHO.

Someone else will have to comment on using aftermarket clutches in these and any issues they have experienced as I have only used OEM and have been most satisfied.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Do you ever shift without using the clutch?

Yes I’d say it would be a fair statement that I wasn’t always gentle with it. Especially right after the S.C. was installed. I’ve never been brave enough to try shifting it with out using the clutch tho Lol

Thanks for the replies, I guess in hindsight when they sent it out to the transmission shop they really should have done more work when they were in there.

When I got the truck back it was shifting perfectly smooth. Then a week later problems started coming back. The shutter is still fixed, but now I have a new weird sound, and the whole pressing the clutch in and the vehicle doesn’t roll on a hill is very confusing??

Guess I’m going back to the shop.

Dang sorry to hear about your troubles. It’s not often that I hear of problems with manual trannies. You’re either cursed or really are hard on your rig lol.

OP, take this for whatever its worth but I have been inside the 6-speed a few times and found the price for parts to be ghastly expensive. A decent rebuild using OEM parts cost me fairly close to what a new unit from what one of the dealer discounters sold me a couple years back and that was with me doing all the labor. Unless you sourced all the parts from Japan or UAE through someone such as amayama.com and did the work yourself I think I would be hard pressed to recommend a rebuild. Rather a low mileage '13-'15 probably would be my choice.

Update, switched back to an OEM clutch, and now it runs perfect. Seems all of the troubles were coming from the stage 3 clutch.
