So I figured I should update this. The drive was amazing. Long but very much worth it, especially since it was paid for me ;)

And you silly 'mericans need to stop bitching about high gas prices. Serusly. After the conversions in $ and volume, the most expensive gas I paid for was in Chicago. At $1.08 / Litre, compared to the cheapest in Canada at $1.11 / L. Compare that to the east coast now, and it's $1.38 / L. The cheapest gas I found in the USA was in North Dakota at $0.88 / L!!

    Overall thoughts:
    - Do people in the USA expect their cars to put on it's turn signal for them? Are they really THAT entitled? I've seen the odd car do it up here, but it's generally a geriatric old fart (OZ) that just forgets to turn it on (or off). But down there it was literally every other car.
    - I hate GPS! I relied on it a few times to locate the hotels, and more than once it led me astray. Sometimes it was so far off course that the hotel had been closed down for over 6 years! Perhaps that was just operator error, or maybe the maps on it were seriously outdated, who knows. But I MUCH prefer using an old fashioned map.
    - Chicago scared me. When the gas station attendant is behind bullet proof glass, that speaks volumes for the part of town you're in.
    - Wisconsin had some neat little cheese shops near the highway. Stopped at one called the Mousehaus cheese house.
    - Frankenmuth was very cool (thank you IluvTEA for the idea). I was christmas'd out in that giant store, but I picked up 2 cases of beer (red and blonde) from their brewery which I enjoyed.
    - The tolls in New York state were outrageous! $24 just to go from one end of the state to the other on the I-95. All in all it was $68 in road tolls alone for the drive!
    - Boston confuses and enrages me. I was only there for a few hours trying to find a hotel, but the GPS kept leading me astray, so I gave up and ended up staying in Salem, which turned out to be very cool. Spent the whole day wandering around the shops and museums.
    - The best drive had to be the I-95 between Ma, NH, and ME. Very scenic and enjoyable. Oh and I quite enjoy your "rest stops". There is some serious thought and effort put into making travellers feel comfortable while they're taking their dog out to pee. In Canada you'll be lucky if there's a porta potty on the side of the road.
