So when i go camping my 2.7 prerunner is having issues going up hill and im scared to tow anything on the back of it... here in phoenix elevation is about 1700 ft.. on the mogollon rim its about 7600 feet when i go up there my truck seems to have a very hard time climbing, am i in the wrong gear buy being in over drive? also is this normal for my 4cyl and if i do tow will this be worse?

    thank you

if it's an auto, just down-gear a few til you find a happy zone for the truck, not much else you can do. will it be worse if you tow? absolutely..try dragging a cart full of bricks up a hill, you'll start breathing hard...

The I4 just does not have the power. Either live with it or trade for a V6 or V8.

I was towing with mine yesterday and just went slower.

A turbo would shine in that sort of high altitude climate... Otherwise, your only problem is you're missing a couple cylinders for an uphill, high altitude tow.

your 2.7 will tow within reason, just slower than a v6.
leave the trans. out of overdrive on anything but the flats.
