haha, noted...although that will be a last resort lol. I'll find myself a "cash only" testing station if I have to but lets hope it doesn't come to that

My guess, if it's worth anything, is that during the beginning of the '03 model year they switched to the Electronic TB (ECTS) and away from the manual TB. Not sure what would really be different other than the electronic portions. Pretty sure the block and exhaust was the same?

Every so often they pop up brand new in box on eBay or maybe even on here. They’re out there somewhere. And when they do it’ll be for top dollar. Probably a bit more than they retailed for. I’m not 100% certain what they were but I’m thinking it was $800-$900, at least $700. So add a rare finders fee on top of that.

Seriously? You're the second person to say that today. Give me a day to see what it'll take to get it done and I'll reply back...

Okay... I just put the order in for CARB EO # D-425-15 Supercharger stickers. They should be here March 26 or 27. They'll look like the white ones in this pic from under my hood...

I’m pretty sure in California the vehicle had to be registered in a legal state For 2 years and it should be exempt from certain standards. It’s like manufacturing a vehicle with or without California emmissions. There’s nothing to prevent you from buy a vehicle without said California standards and registering it in California. I went through it with my jeep.

True, if you have a vehicle that isn't not equipped with CA emissions equipment then you still have to get it smogged (if it's registered in CA) but the guidelines that the smog tech follows will be different and based on the equipment your vehicle has.

In this case though, the TRD headers are stated to be 50 state legal according to TRD but some people have run into issues here in CA with the part number for some TRD headers not lining up with what's listed on the CARB sticker under the hood. Probably a mistake on TRD's part but CA being as strict as it is, this creates problems especially if you have a strict smog tech.

I found the problem with the part numbers not lining up. I mentioned it in my first post above. A simple mistake that took my 2 months of Hell to get my truck registered...

Way back in the beginning of this thread there’s something about the part numbers not matching his specific year and carb cert.

Yeah this was my issue. I have the original TRD sticker that came with the headers but the tech said they covered up to 2003 Tacomas and not 2004 (which of course makes no sense since its the same truck). He was cool about it and let it go but warned me it might be a problem in the future. I guess we'll find out this year if they point it out again, gotta get smogged before 2020.

Have you tried contacting the TRD division at Toyota corporate?
