I have a question related to the two TRD CAIs that there have been. As I understand it, there were two editions of this part.

Tell me if the below is true:

^This is the old version, which was not street legal, and which you can't get anymore. The old part number is PTR05-35061.

^This is the new version, which is street legal and is covered by your warranty. This version uses a flat square/rectangular TRD air filter (part number PTR43-00083), not the conical style found on the old version. The new version is part # PTR03-35090.

Generally, the old version was regarded to perhaps provide a small (at best) performance gain, but the new one is sound/aesthetics only. Neither should be expected to provide any increase in power or MPG.

The old part number and the new part number would both work for any Tacoma, 05+

    Are the above statements true?

Thanks Chris. I had a hard time finding out online which was old and which was new, and how to identify which I would be getting if I ordered one, so I thought I would make a thread that anyone could search up if they were in the same position.

Updated OP with additional info and part numbers.

If anyone knows the part number of the old version, or that of the replacement filter, post it up!

I have the older style on my 09 with the supercharger. Looks like the Part # is PTR05-35061 I dont see any part numbers in the directions for just the air filter its self. Just a part Number for the cleaning kit

    Lots baby!
I beleive URD did some testing on the two and found that the original version made better performance numbers.

The afe Stage 2 is basically the same CAI as the original TRD unit.

AFE Stage 2 Si is the same as the TRD original, it's different than the Stage 2.

Was thinking about buying a TRD CAI but this thread combined with this writeup for a Tundra have made me completely lose interest in a CAI since there's no/little performance gained.
