Here is a picture of my tachometer... I don't see a diff lock there... where is it normally? 20231214_115225.jpg

Nevermind, I see it now. Just above the H of the temp gauge. The picture helped me see it.

The advantage of AutoLSD mode over the default TRAC+VSC mode is that it does not reduce throttle. It works decent for getting out of icy parking spots. I’ve experimented with the mode and made some posts in the traction control thread.

Yeah, you got it. My guess is most combo meter differences are km vs mph, auto vs manual, stuff like that. There are a bunch of different part numbers and I can’t come up with reasons for why there would be so many. It doesn’t help that the descriptions on the parts sites are not very good.

Before going the swap out route, next time you get bogged down or stuck, engage/activate the Auto LSD in your truck and give it a go. It's pretty amazing what it is capable of doing as this video demonstrates and it works in 2WD and 4WD.

That video is misleading and inaccurate. I suggest reading the thread I linked instead.

I agree. Mine is on fire roads and muddy logging trails on a regular basis. Stock SR on new Duratracs and the only time I was bordering on stuck was in deep wet snow. Even then, the ELSD seemed to do a passable job of getting me out of the situation I put myself in. It seems that unless you are into some serious stuff I wouldn’t subject my daily driver to, good tires should be your first move anyway. Plus they look cool!

I have: read through what I could find prior and again, and it's excellent info, but I'm not sure what is misleading or inaccurate? Some system and/or button combinations managed to move that truck forward with three tires off the ground. Can't help but be impressed with that from just pushing down the gas pedal and waiting a few seconds for the computers to figure it out. Maybe the "electronic Geniee" can do it with no driver intervention?

Dunno what's misleading... Maybe it's not really an abandoned brothel?? ;) :proposetoast:

The misleading part of the video is the title... and then everything he describes after is bases on the title, these trucks do not have limited slip diffs. They have open diffs. What is moving the truck is the traction control system. It uses the ABS system to apply brakes to the spinning wheels to transfer rotational power to the wheels that are not spinning. This in turn moves the truck forward.

The only exception to the open diff is the rear locker on Trail, Off-Road and Pro trucks.

    The brothel... who knows...

I don’t know for sure but I don’t think it would matter. Trail edition has the locker and vacuum booster.

All of the 4WD ECUs have the same pin out, they just have different capabilities based on 4WD locker, 4WD non locker, and 2WD locker. I imagine it would be fine but of course can’t say for sure.

Thank you! I'll concede. I understand it's not the 1970's analog LSD's which I had in my Mustang and Dodge van, but it's still accomplishing/doing the same thing (IMO), but better, without all the mechanical complication, special oil additives, -and- it working on two axles at the same time in 4wd. The Dodge would wiggle the back end back and forth while it tried to gain traction until it finally grabbed. I'll take the current "Auto LSD" 2nd and 3rd generation electronic version. It seems to be able to deal with any problem unless you bury it up to the axles and/or floor-pan, and it deals with the snow storms in my area better. When all four wheels on my truck are having problems, even in 4wd, you can tell it's working its butt off to remedy the issue. It's not a locker, but it's close. YMMV

There's no Truetrac for the 8" rear in the TRD OR. The truetrac is available for the 8.4" in thr TRD Sport.

As mentioned you’re in the 3rd gen section, although as of a year or two ago there is a TrueTrac for the e-lock axle in the 2nd gen.

Yeah I been using it but when I go in 4x4 the auto lsd turns off. A lot of my roads there is no 2wd getting threw.

Yeah, I think I finally caught that detail: They put it 4wd but don't think they showed the instrument panel to see what lamps are on. It definitely seems to be in Auto LSD mode though: it pulls the truck off the the jack stands using the only wheel on the ground: front left/drivers' side. Pretty cool.

I'm going to set it up in my 2nd gen tomorrow and see what the indicator lamps do when I select 4H and 4L. I have only needed to actually engage it once to climb an icy hill. I was in 2H and could definitely feel it switching drive wheels (rear) at least once.

When you are close to getting stuck, it’s pretty clear that the ELSD’s working in 4X4.
