    Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my exhaust system in my Tacoma TRD Sport. Any recommendations as to brand and type? Pretty new to automotive mods but I'm not all thumbs. It opposed to dual exhaust either!

The TRD Factory exhaust is nice. It drones a little but sounds great. A little bump in performance also. I'm not a fan of putting aftermarket "parts" on my truck that are not OEM. OEM is designed properly by engineers and you can assure yourself it won't jack with your warranty.

The exhaust I have is still stock and I'm around 95K on it. Is it easier to order OEM through a dealership or look through a automotive store?

By "drone" I mean it has a slight harmonic "hum" at around 2k RPM then that will go away. This is normal. You have to order the exhaust through the dealer unless you can find one used somewhere. They are not cheap by any means also.

I love my trd exhaust. If I wanted it to be silent I would buy a Prius.

I've always wondered if this upgrade is actually worth it. Seems like a ton of money to make a V6 midsize truck have a more aggressive hum to it. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Stock trucks already sound pretty nice. I'm looking up comparison videos on YouTube right now I swear I would never really notice this unless someone told me they had an upgraded exhaust. OP keep your money for wheels and tires bro.

I've got no problem with the sound of my stock exhaust. Purely looking at the performance side of the upgrade. Anyone have pros and cons or is it simply myth?

You'll probably hear about gaining 3 or 4 MPG's. I doubt you'll gain any HP, maybe a couple. If you have money burning in your pocket that you just need to get rid of go for it. You could just change your spark plugs and do an MAF cleaning to get the same result.

90% of the sound from the TRD exhaust is the chrome tip. I chopped the tip off above the rear axle for wheeling.

Plus 1 on this. I tried a couple of aftermarket cat-back systems (Borla and Flowmaster) and was very disappointed. Settled on the TRD performance exhaust, although I haven't noticed any appreciable improvement in performance. But, it sounds great.

I just sawzall'd the last 18 inches or so off mine. Sounds basically the same...

(also got rid of the bullshit bolt on tip that the dumbfuck who owned my truck before me had put on)

Love mine as well. It is louder than the stock exhaust, but not to the point of being obnoxious. On the highway, unless I punch it, I can't even hear it. When you want to hear it, it's there.

    Quoted from the product description:
"Allows for a less restrictive path, helping reduce backpressure for added low- to mid-range torque, along with improved horsepower (between 5 to 8 wheel horsepower, depending upon application)"

Honestly, the average person wouldn't be able to definitively tell if this was true or not anyway (without a before, and after trip to the dyno). But it is a nice exhaust. My 12 year old ride was due for a new exhaust anyway, so I went for the upgrade. If you do go for this, make sure you order a new exhaust gasket (and maybe bolts/springs too).

This is where I got mine from: https://toyotaparts.bochtoyotasouth.com/oem-parts/toyota-trd-exhaust-system-pt91089061

These guys typically have the cheapest prices on stock parts on the internet. Luckily for me they are within reasonable driving distance, but check the shipping against the competitors. At the very least if you don't order from here, you may be able to price match to this site at your local dealer. I believe the link part number is for an Access Cab, or Double Cab Shortbed.

Another vote for the TRD exhaust. It sounds great and droning is hardly noticeable. Plus, it looks great

Trd exhaust here! Love the slight noise as it makes it easy to here when to shift. Stock was way to quite imo. Toyota got it right, nice growl but not annoying or ricer!
