Better mpg with air intake? I find that very hard to believe sir. Taco comes stock with same intake as the one in 5.7 tundra.

I replaced a pretty restrictive intake on my 4.0L ford and it made no difference in mpgs. I used the K&N. Just much better throttle response and a bit more low end tq.

In a 3.5 tacoma, no way. It has a tundra intake stock

I definetily felt it in my ranger. I could go up the same hills without downshifting to 3rd and lugging the engine. Top end felt the same. The intake sounded amazing though.

Thats why i want to replace the intake tube on my taco, that resonator box is huge. HPS makes beautiful tubes, but 300$ over here just for a tube...

Exactly, no way it gets better, if it did it would definitely come that way from the factory.

Y'all realize we own trucks right? Why are we trying to do cold air intakes, and cat back exhausts?

Yeah we should stick to Pro grilles, raptor lights and maxtrax. Haha.

Yep, the most you will gain from an aftermarket intake on a 3.5L is some nice noise. If you are lucky, a bit better throttle response.

I did mine for noise, and was hoping for a better throttle response. I love going through gears and listening to the engine and the intake.

And I think that's 100% valid. I completely get not wanting to drive around a dyson sounding vehicle of any sort. But let's not fool ourselves into thinking any of these things will many a noticeable gain in hp or torque.

Just curious how everyone installed this rubber accelerator. Did u install on the bottom box and then smash it into the wall to mount the bolts, or fit it through the round hole and then attached it to the box? I placed the large opening throught the hole and then attached it to the lower box. Didn't come with instructions and didn't feel right smashing up against the hole and box.

I put some weather stripping around the acceleatot first. Then shoved it into the fender. After, i connected the bottom airbox to it. I think the trick is, to make sure the accelerator is in the perfect spot before you connect the bottom airbox. Took me couple of tries to get the accelerator in the perfect position.

I believe the accelerator is installed into the inner fender’s wall first. With the notch at 12 o’clock. Then the box’s hole mates to it.
(I’m) still waiting on my accelerator.

It is funny how many of the 2nd Gen and Tundra flow accelerators are out there to buy online. The Taco one is hen's teeth. I look for one every once in a while, esp when one of these threads reminds me of it.

Tundra with the 5.7 has the same intake as the 3.5 in the taco. Im 99.9% sure the tundra's accelerator will fit in the taco's fender. If i remember correctly, it said toyota tundra in the parts list when i got my filter and the accelerator.

Edit: yep it did day tundra and sequia.

This is what comes up for the Tundys:

In other pics, the connection to the box appears to be triangular.

Hm interesting. I swear i saw a dude on youtube installing trd intake on his tundra and everything looked identical to the taco. Or i could be just going crazy. The filter for sure will fit 3.5 and 5.7 though.

I don't know about the filter, but it is said the stock airboxes are the same. They might toss them a bone on the TRD side?

I actually remember now telling the parts guy that its the wrong filter since it said tundra and sequia on the paper. He said the filter size is the same for all. It did fit perfectly fine. Now if i can only find a good deal on the HPS tube...:pout: around 300$ around here, madness.

Very interesting. That is generally all that matters. Filter area and box volume for the helmholtz resonator aspect. In rough terms.

They're about $160USD. You can deliver it to me and I will throw it over the border. Just be sure to launch back some BC Bud.

Any one try using the aFe dry air filter? It’s quite expensive but would be nice to not have to oil it like you have to with the TRD or K&N.
