IMHO, not after the pinhole fiasco last year? I believe it was said to only be a batch problem, but some guy lost a motor here. I believe it was the cone type?

I'd rather go oiled cotton, but! A guy did a dyno run with no filter and found no difference over stock paper. This is our first vehicle in over 20yrs that I am using the stock filter.

Same, except 16 years...with now +4 years of ownership (if you don't count my wife's cars).

Sorry! It was a bit further back that I thought. This thread references it:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...uld-you-run-an-aftermarket-air-filter.526401/

And, it looks like the hammer fell on the actual thread:

I just installed one last week in my 2016 TRD4X4 OR DCSB MT6 and didn't notice any change in engine sound however it might have made my exhaust Flowmaster sound a tad more louder. It's hard to tell the difference though but I got mine to save on the cost of replacing a filter over the long run.$.02

Soooo this TRD CAI over the K&N CAI option? Also... Is this K&N option not Cali smog legal or something? Amazon won't ship to me??

Damn! Even the TRD Cold Air Intake isn't Cali Carb rated. What do the folks in cali do for cold air intakes?! Anyone live in Reno I can ship to and I'll drive up and get it, and then just re-install stock in 2 years when I need a smog test?!

You mean that you cannot even ship it to California because it isn't CARB rated? WTF. You know you live in a communist state when a 12 round magazine and an aftermarket air intake cannot be shipped to you because of government restrictions. It is for "Off-Road use only" in every other state that has emissions testing. We do not have emissions testing where I live but, what kind of inspection do you guys have to go through to get approved?

I was wondering about this, but don't some TRD Pros come with the TRD Intake? And said TRD Pros are sold in California? How is the TRD CAI not CARB rated?

Edit: Just checked an online dealer's description.
    Screenshot_20200914-023039.jpg

    So it is CARB Rated?

You can't buy them together but, you can buy them separately? That's stupid. Definitely sounds like government to me.

Could be government, but could also be a Toyota Corporate decision.
But besides that, it is CARB rated, and one should be able to purchase it through a dealer in California. For Amazon, might need to contact one of the vendors, sellers or Amazon and tell them that the TRD CAI is CARB rated, so it releases the shipping restriction.

Could be either one. Corporate decisions aren't much different than government decisions nowadays. Especially some of the things Toyota does. Can you not order it somewhere else online?

I'm not in California, so I never had a CARB issue.
Was just trying to correct or add more information to the thread.

Those of you who did the install, did you disconnect the battery? Normally I would dismiss this step because, but wondering if doing so is actually required to reset the ecu for the new intake.

Maybe reviving an old thread here, but the official Toyota parts site is still not listing the TRD Intake as being compatible with 2020 or 2021 Tacoma. I wonder why? PTR03-351603D4BCA10-B576-4219-9A7D-9E819E86A19B.jpg
