I have a 2007 4x4 SR5. Given all the contradicting reviews on here regarding aftermarket cai systems, would it be possible to replace mine w/ a TRD intake? Feel free to chime in on the cai issue anyway... im not overly concerned w/ HP but want to increase fuel economy as much as possible. Any offroad issues w/ either?

Stock is a cold air intake, it pulls from the fender well. You won't get noticable MPG gains from the TRD or any other cold air intake. You might get slightly better throttle response and more noise. It's a waste of money if you're only doing it for fuel savings.
