There is a whole thread on here somewhere comparing the 2 shift kits. Any good shop should be able to install them. I'll see if I can find it again.

@Murphinator - FYI, I think there was good info in here. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ratiotek-transmission-upgrade-how-to.528378/

I've had this done several times before. No 'cowboying' on this one. Or just let me do it first. :)

So I have a Long Range Automotive 34 gallon fuel tank ordered.

Since I’ll be having the tank out, I’m goong to get the fuel delivery set up so I won’t need to worry about it again.

Thinking of doing a a DIY custom fuel pump hanger. The question I’m pondering is how big of a surge tank should I make? With the stock surge tank, the volume in there is so small that a high volume pump can empty it fairly quick on a WOT run.

    Thoughts?

I’m at 78k. Got a vibe at 1500 rpm. I’m really thinking torque converter right at lockup in 4th/5th. If I keep my revs above or below it’s fine. It doesn’t always do it.

I would calculate according to pump size. Stock pump compared to aftermarket flow rate. That should set you up pretty good.

I think I would need to calculate how long a WOT run takes and how much fuel the engine will consume within that period considering duty cycle of the 61lb injectors and the 7th injector. I'm not a math wiz so I'll have to look for an online calculator.

I'm also considering dual fuel pumps because overkill race truck.

I have a little play in the xfer case output shaft and I'm not sure if it's excessive or not. Personally, I don't think there should be any play in that area. :notsure:

This is exactly the approach I would take. Minus the dual pumps, that’s just overkill. Unless one is solely for redundancy, I can dig that.

Yes, the valve body upgrade is excellent I am running one now! I know there is also performance torque converters out there, just not sure where to source them. For the price that they probably cost, I am pretty content with my transmission right now.

So let's call stock surge reserve 32oz. Anything more is going to be a better situation. If you had like 72 oz. You could drag on airport runways.

Did I hear performance converter group buy?

I finally got all the parts to replace the water bypass pipe that runs under the lower intake manifold. Can I leave the fuel rail & injectors installed on the manifold when I remove it?
    Thoughts?

I think you can, but if my memory serves me correctly, the injectors stick out from the manifold a bit. You just don't want to set them down on the workbench or damage them when removing the intake.

I'm jealous. I want to valve body upgrade but sending it out seems like such a hassle. I've asked a couple shops if they would install the kit but the California cost would probably run me almost as much as shipping it out and I think they do a little more than just the kit if sent to IPT/LCE

Pretty sure IPT sells them. Not sure they have the exact one you're thinking of. https://www.importperformancetrans.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=172

IPT just mods your existing torque converter.

Hey guys! Feeling some clarity coming through at last today and the headaches are fading out as well. Thanks for all your positive words. Be easy on me though because I'm still slightly stupid, though some of that is in my genes. :D

Dual pump setup = overkill + more areas of failure and difficulty diagnosing those failures later.

That is a statement I can definitely stand behind DocME.

A good quality stall converter ranges priced anywhere from $700-$1200 and being how deep into the truck it goes installed I would consider it a "permanent" mod, so if you end up unhappy with it, that's it. Or fork over some more hundreds to redismantle the transmission again. If you are 4X4 my prayers are with you. Lol.

Don't jump! Don't do it! You will regret that decision later if your avatar is of any indication to me how much you like to wheel.

I thought it was a new one they are providing. I didn't know that. That method to me is slightly questionable.

Two votes against. Now I’m doing dual pumps for sure!

There you go, don't do it because you can't, but do it because you shouldn't!
