    I understand what you mean.

    After spending 30 years with two "pre-Tacoma" trucks and two 1st gens, this thing feels like a rocket to me in comparison of all my previous trucks. You had to rev the hell out of them just to get out of the way.

    Pop-n-lock tailgate. New radio knobs. Rear step.
    I had a 1992 4-cyl with the 5-speed manual. I remember that truck couldn't pull the hat off your head but it never bothered me a bit. It was great. I miss those manual hubs. :)

    Had a 91 with a 3.0 and a 5 speed, slow as shit.

    I miss those manual hubs and an actual transfer case shift lever too. They just looked cool on the truck in a utilitarian way.

    I did a price estimate of the 2017 OR and the Pro for what I would want and what I'm considering. I pulled the price estimates off TW posts researching various threads. All Prices are US$ from what I gather. I like the idea of having pretty much everything OEM. Choosing the OR gives me the option of different suspension down the road. What ya think?

    Headlights = 2000
    Tailights = 700
    Hood = 1000
    Rear Bumper = 750
    Grille = 500
    17" SEMA Wheels = 700
    black hood decal = 80
    Katskinz = 1200
    Accessories Subtotal = 6930

    Used Toyota Gulf States build and price
    Accessories picked for each truck:
    Mud Guards (Black) = 140
    Vehicle Protection Plus Package = 399
    Cargo Bed Light = 259
    Charging and Connectivity Kit = 179
    Picked the Package "Premium & Technology Package with JBL® Audio with options" at 3,685 for the OR
    The more expensive package included the tri-fold tonnaeu cover as the only difference.

    TRD Pro configured = 44732
    TRD Off Road configured = 40362
    Price Difference = 4370
    Price Variance Etimate = 2560 (Extra choosing OR and buying accessories)

    Major Differences:
    The TRD Off Road has -
    Moonroof
    JBL Audio with OEM Subwoofer
    Can fit the OEM Tri-fold Bed Cover.
    Blue, MGM, Silver Streak, Orange and Quicksand colors not available for the Pro

    The Pro has -
    Fox Shox with the Pro wheels that has .5" offset over the OR to give 1" wider track.
    OEM tri-folder bed cover does not work. Seems more like a con
    Awesome Cement not available in other models.

    Note: This does not take into account cost mitigation by selling the OR wheels, hood etc to get some of the cost back which may take that overage to 0.00

    Looks good. The only thing is it's hard to figure in labor cost and time associated with upgrading an OR to make it similar or better than a Pro. Also, if you're talking about price there's the resale to be considered. Usually you won't recoup most of the add ons you put into modifying a truck.

    Also, why wouldn't the OEM cover work on the Pro? You'd have to modify or change out the top rails but it should work?

    Also, from what others have said here, the JBL stereo is good, but not great and it's a PIA to replace vs. the entune premium that comes on the PRO. Obviously that is all subjective like anything having to do with audio equipment. I like good sound but I plan on getting a PRO and swapping out the speakers down the line. That will be plenty nice for me.

    The moonroof is nice, but I gather that if you are taller than 6' you might have trouble with headroom.

    Nice analysis, thanks for writing that up.
    I'll also point out if you buy the Pro, all those extras are installed and warranteed.

    That's the best part though. All of the parts will be purchased from the dealer parts counter which comes with the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. There will not be any warranty issues.

    I sat in the OR today and moved my head around to check mobility and also did the same thing in the back. I'm 5'10" and with the moonroof there is a bit of a headroom issue if I decide to sit straight up but not too bad really. If you're any taller or have a longer torso there will be a headroom issue. They do have some indention for more headroom in primary space, but not too much movement is allowed without bumping the noggin' on the headliner.

    I just felt the stock JBL is enough for me considering the cabin space. Most people already stare at me when I turn up the non-JBL with the window rolled up when I'm at a light anyway. I also figured it will be less time consuming over taking it to a shop or DIY to get an afermarket stero install. One thing to also consider is the ********* sub that actually uses the smaller of the two rear storage bins while the OEM JBL uses the larger bin behind the seat.

    I got to ride in a cement TRD Pro because one of the Toyota salesmen happened to have one and he tried fitting the OEM tri-fold tonneau cover and it would not work. I guess it's missing the mounting holes on the bed where the primary anchor point it located? He ended up just buying a roll up type with a lock.

    I'm not really too concerned with recouping the price of any changes made because I want to keep this next one for a long time vs every 2-4 years. I was more looking at the overall cost of what I want in the truck. I'm definitely gonna get another Tacoma though. :)

    Oh yeah and update to the rear bumper. It is not necessary on the 2017 OR because it is already color matched like the Sport model! How cool is that?

    The OEM cover is a port installed option. The rails have to be modified or replaced to work with the cover and that applies to any Taco. If you're looking at covers, consider one of the aftermarket ones as I haven't really seen good reviews of the OEM one and the fact you have to modify the rail covers.

    Happy I got my OR 4x4 DCSB for 31800, ordered with Tow package and front protection. I can't see spending 45k for a mid size truck.... Imagine all the upgrades I can do with the extra money..

    A lot of stuff, just ask and I'd be happy to tell you. Or we could wheeling/camping
    Just pointing this out I highly doubt 31,800 was the sticker and you didn't negotiate. I didn't pay 45, nor would I. Didn't even pay over 40k.

    Lowest invoice I've seen is 33900 (something close to that).

    Yours is by FAR the lowest I seen anyone say they got a DCSB OR for. Unless it was a sevice loaner or used.

    I choose to go with the Pro because all of the things it had I really wanted combined into one truck. Honestly if I could have ordered an OR w/sunroof and a hood scoop I would have. Is it perfect? Of course not, but that is why the aftermarket parts industry is so strong. Everyone on this forum likes to customize their truck to a certain level. After unsuccessfully searching for two months I finally found mine. Based on how hard it is to get your hands on a Pro makes me really appreciate this thing. I just added the FN 17x8 wheels with 265/70R70 BFG KO2's, Redline Hood Struts, Tacoma OEM bed mat. Front window tint is next and I am waiting to get my predator side rails back from being customized. I had the steps cut off and he is going to grind down the welds and re-spray with line-X or something that looks factory. The steps are completely useless to me and they only rub your leg when your getting out.
    Out door I was at $47,000 with a 6 year 75K warranty. That includes taxes and tags.
