I own the Distillery...None of that week brown water stuff! Hahahahah! Whiskey, Gin and Vodka! I'm the whole operation these days! My assistant is a First Responder and Wild Land Fire Capt. so until Oct. it's me! But Polis closed the tasting rooms and bars so I can only do bottle sales this summer.

Here's a video that shows the overall trail. The section I had issue with began at 0.45 on the time ticker.

I googled a bit to refresh my memory and read that the regular brake system uses a vacuum boost but the system on the OR is fully hydraulic. In any case, the two systems differ more than just in electronics. I'm not sure about the details.

I know that cameras often don't do trails justice, but that looks more like a road than a trail. I would probably use 4hi too. I'm confused why you would stall it in 1st gear. Possibly the inclines are much more than they appear. Did you happen to get reading from your incline gage? It does happen to me sometimes, but I attribute it to driver error rather than truck performance. That said, the 3.5 is not gutsy down low. Got to keep it up in its power band.

Corkscrew is pretty tame really. There's higher areas with no trees that might intimidate some drivers though. It's been too long though I don't remember how steep those sections are and I would have been over them in an Xterra.

The vacuum booster only amplifies and assists the driver's brake pedal input at the master cylinder piston and has no input during traction or stability control events. Individual wheel braking during traction control and VSC events is always accomplished by pressurizing the brake system with a hydraulic pump and is totally independent from the brake boosting method. The fundamental function of autoLSD and A-TRAC is the same, they are just tuned and actuated differently for their targeted purposes.

Are you saying the brake system on the OR is identical to the one on the SR5? AFAIK, the OR has no vacuum boost and I’ve owned both a 2016 SR5 and a 2020 OR and know the ABS brakes on the two have a different sound. The system on the OR is much quieter (albeit I don’t know why that would be caused by a difference in the pressure/vacuum creating mechanism). I’m not trying to prove you wrong. I’m just trying to educate myself.

EDIT: I am unable to find the original information that lead me to believe the OR had a much different ABS brake system. I only found mention that the OR has no vacuum booster.

No I'm not saying they are identical and they are far from identical. OR is a hydroboost system and SR5 is a vacuum boost system. The boost system is only doing something when YOU push the brake pedal. I was trying to explain the boosting method will not apply to VSC or TRAC intervention and only applies to helping the driver push the brake pedal during braking or amplifying the braking input from the driver.

The key point is ALL systems use some hydraulic pump for ABS, VSC, and TRAC operation.

The OR ABS operation uses the hydroboost system to pressurize the system during ABS, VSC, and TRAC intervention. The SR5 has a hydro pump as well that is used solely for pressurizing the system during the ABS, VSC, and TRAC intervention. This pump is integrated in the actuation unit (found on the pass fender well) and is a very different pump than the pump used in the OR hydroboost system. So each system works with different pumps and is designed to operate at different pressures. So they are far from identical.

How ABS, VSC, TRAC works fundamentally doesn't change. System is pressurized by some pump and an array of solenoids opens and closes hydraulic paths to apply pressure, hold pressure, or release pressure. Each truck performs this same strategy using different manifolds and number of solenoids.

The Toyota hydroboost system is interesting because it uses the same pump for everything whereas older systems used the PS pump and hydraulic system for pedal boost. I believe this is why the hydroboost equipped trucks have a system of 12 solenoids instead of the more traditional 10.

The A-TRAC is an aggressive across-the-axle traction control system designed to work at low speeds, low slip ratios, and with high actuation forces and isn't found on all trucks. It's a unique tune of 'TRAC'. However, basic traction control (TRAC/autoLSD) is found in some form on all newer trucks.

    I’d use 4lo personally

the other thing you can do - OVTUNE. It’ll get you significantly more low end power. It’s well worth the cost. No need for gears in the MT before you fix the janky programming from Toyota.
