Anybody here installed a Front view camera and has a TRD Pro Grill? If so, How did you install it? did you have to cut anything below the "TOYOTA" logo? Got any pics of your install? Thanks!

EDIT: also, if you have a TRD Pro grill or Faux grill, could you post a picture of the underside of where the "TOYOTA" logo sits in the grill. I want to see if there is enough room to cut out an opening to place a camera facing down without any part of the grill interfering.

Here is what I did. I took some pictures of the camera installed, but not me cutting it up or how I wired the camera to the HU.

    1. I purchased a Anytime Backup Camera harness and Front Camera switcher from www.anytimebackupcamera.com

    https://www.anytimebackupcamera.com/product-page/camera-override-dongle-28-position-1

    https://www.anytimebackupcamera.com/product-page/complete-override-and-video-kit-2014

You could have done this just cutting into the factory harness, but this kit comes with 2 different harnesses that just plug into the factory harnesses so I didnt have to cut or splice any of the factory wiring.

    2. I purchased 2 custom laser etched small Toyota SPST switches from www.CH4x4.com to my exact liking.

    http://www.ch4x4.com/product/ch4x4-custom-laser-etched-toyota-small-push-switches/

    3. I purchased a custom switch plate for the 2 switches which fit in the overhead console from Shapeways that was designed by a member here on TW. he has other switch panels for various locations, but this one worked for me since I dont have a OR and that portion of the console was not being used.

    https://www.shapeways.com/product/8...switch-panel?optionId=63044466&li=marketplace

    IMG_4380.jpg

    4. I purchase a RCA/power cable to run from the front of the truck to the Headunit from Amazon.

RCA Cable and Adapter Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019TUJ0MK

    5. I purchased 3 different cameras before I found the one I liked. The last one here is the one I ended up using for the Pro Grill, the first one I had running on the original Chrome Sport grille. Overall It worked okay (wasnt the same quality as the rear and only 170 degrees), but I wanted a camera that had 180 degree view so I could view the entire front of the truck, and not just in front of the bumper area. Also, the first one fit in the Toyota logo and not available from the original seller I bought from, but you get an idea of what I bought. It really makes a big difference between the 170 and 180 degree fish eye. Also, this was pretty much the only camera I found that was both 180 degrees and it could be used for the front of the truck. All other similar 180 degree cameras stated that it was reverse cameras, which means that the image would have been reversed, the the image would be like looking in a mirror, I wanted the actual front so after alot of research, this was the best solution. I did find another one with a screw terminal, but overall, this was the best for this particular setup.

    IMG_4969.jpg

    6. I also had to purchase a fuse tap to tap at the fuse box to get a ignition power source. I probably could have tapped at the HU, but I didnt want to take a chance.

E Support 12v Car Motor Low Profile Add-a-circuit Fuse TAP Adapter Mini ATM APM Blade Fuse Holder Style https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SUX9V4K

    7. I also purchased some split loom and cable ties to keep the cables all nice and neat in the engine compartment, but this is totally up to you, but I am anal like that.

    Absolute USA SLT38 3/8-Inch x 100-Feet Split Loom Tube https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PLY92TK

Cable Ties from Home Depot or anywhere they sell electronic supplies, I already had them from past installs.

    8. Almost forgot the custom fuse panel cover from Meso Customs to hide the add-a fuse.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/custom-fuse-cover-extended-height.519448/

I know, its alot of stuff and all this stuff added up in cost just to add the front camera....Could have been done on the cheap by just taping existing wires, etc, but wouldnt have been as neat and factory looking.

For the installation of the anytime backup camera and switch, I used the diagram they had posted on their website www.anytimebackupcamera.com and I also emailed the seller, I also talked to him over the phone on specific questions I had regarding the wiring. This was fairly simple, removing the HU, connecting up the provided harnesses, installing the switches in the overhead console and running the wires down to the HU. Mind you, I did this over the course of several weeks, since I didnt have everything for the install and was getting antsy to get something done, not to mention my truck was held hostage by the dealer for the rear diff recall...:annoyed:

I have attached some pictures I took. I dont have alot, but hopefully enough to help you if you decide to do this for yourself.

When cutting into the grill, be sure to cover all the front areas with blue tape or some kind of protection just in case when using your dremel, you slip. you dont want it to damage the finish of the grill. Also, the camera had to be hot glued in to be in the perfect position it is in now.

BTW, I think my wife loves this mod more then I do. She doesnt want to drive my truck because she says she cannot see anything over the dash and hood scoop. at least now, she wont be afraid to park it anywhere and damage my truck!

Is it possible to post some pictures of the front camera from your stereo to see how the view is like ? Thanks!

My truck is parked between 2 cars and you can see the white one on the left and red on the right side. The white one is slightly forward of my truck but the red one is in line with my truck. Pretty much can see everything in front of me, even some hidden short poles that may get missed. 180 degrees is the way to go. Too bad i dont have a picture of the 170 degree. Oh well....

With the Black Pro Grill, it looks like it came from the factory like this. If I decide to go back to the Chrome grill, I will probably do the same thing, cut a square hole under the Toyota logo and put this camera under it. I also wanted to do this to my wifes Lexus NX, but with the LSS stuff, probably will be more of a pain to deal with the sensors and stuff. At least her car has front parking sensors...

I hear you brother. I didnt mind a love tap or two on the front or rear bumpers of my old Frontier, but with the Taco, NO WAY! I think that is why my wife is afraid of driving my truck and happy I installed this. At first she thought I was crazy and just wasting money buying all this stuff, but now its a whole different story!
