Does the Skid plate on the Off Road also act as a sort of a Air dam? I know that question is dumb, but I was just wondering as I thought the trucks with the automatic sixes all had the same EPA mileage ratings? Taking the dam off would seem to give the EPA a excuse to drop the mileage estimates for the off road. Enlighten this dummy as I have been thinking of adding a Skid plate to my SR5 for my rare off road ventures
    Thanks

Pretty sure the factory broke the weld nuts on my skidplate. Tried taking it off the other day to clean up some oil and the bolts spin but never come off :/

I know I'm bringing this thread back from the dead sorta but does anybody know if you need to cut the TRD skid plate to accommodate a lift kit diff drop like you do for the factory skid?

This thing is legit. It makes the OR stock skids look disgraceful in comparison. Highly recommended.

Just got this one - it's a work in progress.....
Thanks for posting this. It was helpful not to have to try to "trial and error" which bolts to remove while holding a heavy part. Made my life a lot easier. I think this is what the original poster was asking. Oh......and it fit perfectly on my SR5, for those wondering.

there is a bolted on transport hook on the radiator support / frame cross member that you may have to unbolt to get it to fit.

I put one on my SR5 last week and just had to remove the air dam (and old skid plate, of course). Nothing else (hooks, etc) had to be removed.

I have a 2018 OR. I ordered a TRD skidplate and received mine with bolts for the front and middle attachments preloaded on the skidplate, but there were no bolts for the rear attachments. Does anyone know if I can use the stock bolts that came with the original plate?

I'm not sure if they are the same length. Didn't bother to compare when I installed mine. Give it a go and try. If it helps, I might have an extra in the garage. I was missing one bolt and the seller sent me another two to replace them. So I have an extra. I'm sure you can find one to match at your local hardware shop. If you are local and want it, let me know.

The instructions say that the stock bolt is (M8 x 1.25 x 20 mm) and the trd bolts are (M8 x 1.25 x 35 mm) .... so the new bolts are longer. You can probably take the stock bolt to the hardware shop and have them find u one thats 35mm if the shorter one isn't long enough to tighten down.

You can find these exact bolts for a buck or 2 each at Lowe’s in the bolt aisle.

Hmm seems like you wouldn't want both? If the skid is doing its job and protecting your underbody, the dam would surely rip off if the skid took a hit. I don't think I've seen anyone run both. Not sure if it's possible.

One guy did. Can’t find the pic but he cut the middle of the air dam out to make room for the skid plate, and left the edges in front of the wheels to deflect the air down around the wheels. Basically the pro skid sticks forward too far for the air dam to sit there.

Thanks for the replies! I think I do remember seeing what that guy did. Don't really need it for the skid function, I just think it looks way nicer and more functional (filter access) than the stock skid :spending:

Some say the air dam adds 1 mpg or so. I removed mine and I didn’t lose anything, and I think the truck looks better without it. Rip it off, and throw on the pro skid. Looks better. Functions better.
