OR with a scoop would have been much cheaper. I took that route.

573D4FCD-4701-4D03-8420-5004D988550E.jpg I got the sport because I hate chrome. hood scoop looks cool, almost never off road, like a stiffer suspension, wanted 4x4 for slippery boat ramps. Wanted nicer seats and radio ,wheels over sr5. Sport fits in my systems just fine.

I wanted 3 things when I went to the dealership. Scoop, longbed, 4x4. Sport had all those and no chrome end caps on the rear bumper. that shit looks cheap. Very happy with mine.

we're bamboozled regularly by marketing in this country. the sport is brilliant example of how effective the strategy works. worked on me.

I prefer the Sport suspension over the others. I test drove the different trims a few different times, and I always liked the Sport. It also has the color matched bumper and flares. Plus, the Skewp on the Inferno just makes me happy.

It's not like a naturally aspirated Tacoma needs a functional hood scoop anyway

I liked the Sport suspension... 95% of my driving is paved roads, and I didn't like how the OR drove on said roads. Lots of nosedive when I hit the brakes, and felt like driving a cloud.

As a recent Tacoma owner, I went with the sport because:
    • 4x4 (Light use for me,no need for the OR features)
    • Drive (17" wheels, stiffer suspension than the OR makes it a better daily driver IMO)
    • Looks (fender flares, not the biggest fan of the scoop but getting used to it)
    • MPGs
    • Price

Toyota offers the TRD Sport (and Offroad) in 2wd only models as well, just throwing that out there since a few people have said they got the TRDs because they needed 4x4.

See plenty of them on the road out here in the Southwest, in fact they're more popular than the 4x4 variant in most places here. Almost every TRD 1st/2nd gen Tacoma I see is a 2wd model. 3rd gens it seems more of them are 4wd but I do see both around

I’m a big fan of the mirror turn indicators, think all models should have them for safety. I originally liked the sport suspension but quickly overwhelmed it with firewood and such, aesthetically I do prefer the color matched grill and bumper...
But I’m also a second gen so what do I know.

If you overwhelmed the Sport, you would have done it sooner with all the other models since we have the stiffest springs.

    This a photo heavy post.
Well grab a glass of whiskey, start the fireplace, pull the recliner and I’ll tell ya!
I’m sure a shit ton of people will also break it down for you. This may take a while kid!

Sometimes you drive 700 miles per week and you wanted to buy the 4x4 truck. All those miles. So you settled on a brand new 2wd 2015 sr5 Prerunner.
    625D8946-F9F7-46F2-B694-9502C09F98B1.jpg
    Why a Prerunner? Well, because a used 2nd gen 4x4 with 70,000 miles was $30k! A 2015 Tacoma Prerunner SR5 2wd v6?
    $23,989 new!
0FD25063-6FD5-4316-A095-E8C6C45C477E.jpgMy daughter was in Girl Scouts. She’s a natural saleswoman.
It was great hauling cookies. The kid sold so many boxes I was forced to buy a truck. That’s how I bought my Prerunner

Ahhh I’ll miss the Cookie Monster mobile!
My daughter cried when I traded in BOB.

You look at your outdated inferior interior. You think.... is it me or is this interior straight out of the 90’s?
Does it have that outdated Nissan Frontier interior? Yes!7D128416-FB1B-472C-BA5D-EDE73FF06D31.jpg
    Yes!

Fast forward 2 years later and you see a ton of 2nd gen Trd sports. You like them. You want one. So you go to the dealer and get a shit ton of cash for your used 2wd Tacoma that needs brakes, tires, shocks and a full array of maintenance.

    Is Toyota serious?
    I looked at the 2017 sr/sr5.
    The interior had colored panels.
    DBF925A9-1C1E-429E-B3EC-C959CB908395.jpg
I didn’t want a driving circus tent. I can see the plastic trim that holds the air vents but door panels and the glovebox? Absolutely horrible. My wife talks about accent walls from home improvement shows but not my truck interior! I’m not 20 yrs old. I’m a old man.
The sport? A solid color interior!
Black interior! Yes . I decided I was buying it just in the upgraded non preschool, single color panel interior. Im sure SR’s had black color interior. None at any dealers in
South East Wisconsin that I went to.

I’m in my truck 3-5 hrs per day depending on traffic or weather.
    A9008854-BBA1-4EA2-8B77-31B396993234.jpg
My wife? She hates the hood skewp. Claims she can’t see over it and won’t drive it. I joked and put a phone book in my truck for a road trip. FYI it was a uncomfortable 1st 800 miles of silence. Ahhh sweet silence! She also said the color matched fenders look better. Things you convince your wife you need when you just bought a brand new Tacoma 2 years prior. I shot high. Told her the pro will do it all.

And so... BOB 2.0 was born. A3C86081-727E-46D3-A0CA-1C6EE8533DB5.jpg

Go fill you glass back up!!

I used 20 different dealers against each other and got the lowest price I could.
Did I think I’d need crawl control to scale rocks? No.
If I did where would I put my real Oakley’s from the sun glass hut?

Now I want to use it.

After all that it was the cheapest price I could get on a new Tacoma with all the options I wanted.

As a side note the Sport hood is sought after. People offered a hood swap plus $500 cash. A few offered light bars even a OEM rack and ditch lights. I’m at the gas station and people pull up and tell me they want the hood but on the off road. 20 minute conversation about a hood. Lol!

    You know it looks good!!!!

Ag of dog supplies (2 bowls, 12 ft dog chain, dog food, dog treats, misc dog toys). A 2 1/2 gallon water jug.

Was going to get sport trim because:

    -Loved the FAKE hood scoop
-Wanted 4x4 but probably would be 5% of my driving time.
-Only trim that offers MT (off road offers it too)

    Got Off Road because:

    - I cried like a baby to get discount on the only MT Tacoma in the Miami area.
-The sales man told me directly: I am not going to order a sport for you at “loss” BS for me.

GLAD I bought Off Road MT

I already scraped one of my black unpainted fender flares and applied black trim protectant and voila! Disappeared. Got to understand how tear locker works...

Al I wanted was MT. Everything else didn’t matter too much.
