I'm in the market for a late 90s, early 00s Tacoma 4x4 and would like to know what set the TRDs apart from the non-TRDs.

I know the TRDs had the electric locking rear diff which I think is a great feature, but did they have higher suspension lift and higher spring rates as well? I've test-driven one of each, and the TRD truck seemed to have a stiffer ride.

If I wind up buying a non-TRD truck, what might it cost to have an electric locking rear diff installed?

    Thanks,
    DavidL

The TRD has Bilstiens shocks. That is what you felt. Well at the very least.

The rest some one else will have to chime in

The TRD models also have the progressive rate coil springs in the front, makes the ride a wee bit stiffer.
