    Same to you!

I got some cash, some camping gear, cookbooks, way more gift cards than normal, but no truck parts as I am tapped on that.

Got the driver side fender on... but need to do some work to the passenger side before I can put it on with the snorkel.

Awesome! I got some much needed tools from my wish list and a ton of goodies to snack on.

Last night when I got home from my brother's I discovered another Christmas surprise... driver side axle seal appears to be toast on my front diff that I just swapped out with a rebuilt unit from ECGS like a month ago. Guess that's my version of getting coal from Santa!

Now I get to fix that mess after I call up ECGS and figure out WTF is going on.

I did get an email this morning about a shipping notification for my Ray10s, so at least I've got that going for me :taco:

    Dang man. That blows.

I have been dealing with a rear end whistle or whine that I cannot pin point.... does not happen all the time which is weird. I think it may be the new gearing in the break in period, but will have to watch it for a bit. If it happened all the time I would just hope in the bed and have the woman drive around the neighborhood while I listened.

Maybe the new axle was feeling festive and has been whistling some Christmas carols?

No idea, I sent Dynatrac an email to see what they say. Wasn't happening when I was in FWD, only after I put the driveshaft in the truck. I thought it was maybe the shell at first as it was pretty windy that night, then happened again yesterday and definitely coming from the rear.

Have you tried looking at the diff howling threads on here to get an idea of what may be going on with yours? Obviously your axle is different than a stock tacoma, but maybe the fix that the 3rd gen guys have may work for you.

mmmmm but it is 3rd gen stuff... I guess I can look.

I need to have it do it again and then ride in the back of the truck and see or have it do it again, jack the rear end up and run it and see if I can pinpoint where it is coming from.

I am thinking it may just be during the break in. The couple times that it has happened it has happened when I have had to drive longer than 20 minutes...

As normal break in for new gears and such is like 15-20 minutes driving, then let the diff cool completely and all that stuff for a 500 miles.

But found a thing that Dynatrac said

"BREAK-IN - Ring and pinion sets require a brief break-in period in order to ensure long life and quiet operation. The following procedure is required to maintain any and all warranties that apply:
    1. Bring the axle to normal operating temperature by driving the vehicle unloaded for approximately 20 miles. Do not accelerate hard or create unnecessary shock loads.
    2. Let the axle cool completely.
    3. Operate the vehicle normally for the next 200 miles. Do not haul heavy loads or tow heavy trailer during this period.
    4. For towing usage, operate the vehicle with the trailer for about 20 miles, and let the axle cool completely.
    5. Avoid constant heavy towing until a total of 500 miles has been driven on the new axle."

So hopefully with having to go to Longview last week twice did not hurt anything as it really was not under load since the driveshaft was not installed. Only time will tell and will be pulling the diff cover off around 400 miles and putting new fluid in there and then repeating the process at around 1k miles.

Yea hopefully so, just going to drain it and check it around 400 miles and then repeat at 1000 miles.

Because there is not enough PTO in the world. Lol

Yea, that is what I am doing as well. Coming in early this week so I don't have to use a full 8 hours for Yesterday.

I was skeptical of the SCS matte bronze finish until I saw some better photos and thought I'd try to get a hold of a set.

Now that I have them here in person... I'm glad I got them!:drool::drool:
