So i bring my truck in yesterday because i had some play in the steering, or a clicking rather when going up sloped driveways or over bumps on occasion. I assumed it was just a sway bar bushing or something minor since all the bearings were replaced a year ago.

Come to find out the frame is shit and the truck is unsafe to drive. Im assuming there will be a shit storm of nonsense to come with this ordeal.

I already created a case with toyota, however the rep on the phone had no real answers and was going in circles with the same prompted responses.

If there have been so many people based on my research with the same issues, why is there not a recall for 2nd gens yet? Are they waiting for someones frame to snap then crash?

1st gen guys went through this for a while before the recall was issued. It's only a matter of time for us. Unfortunately the waiting process brings back flashes from when I first read Fight Club.

You are not the first, and you will certainly not be the last.

It does suck big time.... I couldn't believe it when my dad took his 99 in for a starter and never got it back.

    114k on it now
The service manager is working on it with corporate. He also said they are working on this specific problem on a case by case basis and are working towards a safety recall. I dont know if its BS or not but he also said from his experience they most likely will take care of it.
Fingers crossed im not screwed here.

Funny thing is that they assured me the frame was inspected however there is nothing stating structural inspection when i bring up the carfax i saved and the service report from the dealership.
Sure there was some surface flaking but thats pretty standard for all vehicles of this age in New England.

Toyota did perform the bearing replacements as well as some other things when it got an inspection sticker last January 15th.

Only thing ive done since then is change the oil and rear diff fluid.

They wouldn't give them to me yesterday when i asked. Service guy said he had to wait for corporate confirmation before giving me any data or a loaner car for that matter.

It was severely rotted through in some points and was beginning to crack. Im sure they stuck a pry bar in there to test some spots because it looked like an open can of soup in some spots.

    Did Toyota inspect it ?

fuck that! it's your truck. they need to give you your truck back NOW if they will not give you a FREE loaner.

I'd threaten to call the cops if they refuse to give it back and if they still don't flinch I would call them. They can not keep your truck hostage while not telling you anything.

He would most likely get a new frame based on the experiences of other people who have posted their frame rot experiences on the 2nd gens.
You should add your info to the perforated frame thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...fficial-perforated-rusted-through-frames.html
Also some good reading on these threads:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...a-2nd-gen-terminal-frame-rot-rust-cancer.html
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/303962-toyota-replacing-frame-my-05-a.html
If I remember correctly there was also another thread where a member documented getting his 06 frame replaced, but I can't seem to find it right now. The frame rot cancer thread is the first one I remember reading where the owner was able to get the frame replaced.
Good luck on the journey. Keep us posted.

OP You mentioned car fax report. Did you recently purchase the truck. The reason I ask is, your frame has been on its way out for a while. If it's a fairly recent purchase they never should have sold it in that condition.

I keep all my paperwork on file from everything.
I traded my wrangler in for this a little over a year ago.
My main point of concern then was the frame when i was looking at it based on what i had been reading prior to purchase. They assured me it was fine as they go through a rigorous inspection process and will not sell any vehicles that are not up to par.

They did perform the state inspection which is good untill Jan of 2015. Theoretically at this point i suppose...

They wanted me to sign a waiver stating they would not be responsible for my death or any other persons if i took the truck.
I figured i would leave it so its a constant reminder to them and the ball is still in their court.

Sounds like they are screwed legally speaking.

Good luck man! You guys paving the way saves the rest of us the headache when it happens to us. I have an 08' so I'm 2 years away from major issues myself.

If you bought the truck a year ago, then the frame was already too far rotted. I think you have a strong argument and case against them for selling this vehicle to you saying that the frame was good to go. Plus they did a recent safety inspection, and the frame is now unsafe? They screwed up.

Whoahhh!! Heart med time. Is this mainly an off roading or salt road issue??? First I have heard of a general issue with them all. Note-to-self to look under my 2007 this afternoon.
