+1 I'm just at 10K no issues... not even a squeak... coupla rattles butt hey - it's a pick up truck its supposed to rattle.

    OP - 2 words - Lemmon Law

30 days without a fix they have to buy it back or give you another new one just like the original!

30 days in the shop cumulatively - just add up the days at the shop doesn't have to be 30 days in a row just 30 days total with problem not fixed = buy back!

Google "lemmon Law ok" Select the PDF document listed in google

"ok" for Oklahoma each state has their own lemon laws but are pretty close to each other.

I'll cut and paste the part about the 30 days right here - it's like the 3rd paragraph.

NOTE: You need to contact dealer IN WRITING about the lemon law - so hire an attorney
if you can't type a letter.

    Quoted from PDF:

    "Act fast!
You must report the defect, directly and in writing, to the manufacturer, the manufacturer’s
agent or dealer during the term of the warranty or during the period of one year following the date
of original delivery of the motor vehicle, whichever is earlier.
You must take the vehicle back to give the manufacturer, manufacture’s agent or dealer a
“reasonable number of attempts” to fix the problem.

What are a reasonable number of attempts?
According to the law, there is a presumption that the manufacturer, manufacturer’s agent or
dealer has made a reasonable number of attempts, if they have attempted to fix the same defect four
or more times during the warranty period or one year following the date of the original delivery of
the vehicle, whichever is earlier; or the vehicle is out of service because of the repairs for a total of
30 business days during the same period."

    Good luck

If they fix or can replace the truck I will be satisfied. I don't want to get caught in a predicament where they tell me it's a normal characteristic of the truck.

I have been given no time for completion of my truck, so I guess that is definitive?

Got my truck back a couple days ago. They replaced the rear drums, replaced driveshaft carrier, and performed the ECU update. The 15-25 mph rumbling was deemed a normal characteristic of the truck. The howling coming from the differential between 55-60 mph was deemed a normal characteristic of the truck. They replaced the rear drums because of the vibrating at all speeds. That did not fix the vibration, I texted the service manager the next day and he replied "they are coming from the factory that way and we are waiting for the FTS to update us on how to fix it."
The only thing that was fixed it seems at this point is the leaking from the driveshaft bearing.
I'll be calling corporate on Monday to see what to do next. I can live with the rumbling, vibrating and howling, but my experience tells me these things usually cause excessive wear and tear on the vehicle and the parts causing the issues. When I asked the service manager if he could put in writing that the issues I am concerned with will not cause excessive wear and tear on the vehicle, his reply was exactly of my concern "How would we know if that was or wasn't the cause of the problem"...

They replaced my rear diff and in the work order notes it said there was premature wear/failure of the rear differential. So either they lied on my work order or they are lying to you? I don't even know what to think at this point. The fact the noise was getting louder from 6 or 7k miles to when I finally took it in at 12k miles.... to me that throws a huge red flag that symptoms were worsening. You mentioned they replaced the Driveshaft carrier? What was the driveshaft carrier replacement supposed to fix?

Only if they make the trade a net zero loss to the customer. Otherwise Toyota failed to deliver a 100% working vehicle and there is no reason in the world the customer should be out hard cash because the product was unsat.

After reading all this I'm scared my truck will explode if I start it, and it's a 2nd generation.

I just bought a 2016 Tacoma built in Mexico. What did you notice that pointed to low transmission fluid? How bad is the surging and is it at a particular speed?

The surging is typically when I back out of the garage first thing in the morning....doesnt do it after the truck is warmed up. I took it in to the dealer for this months ago and suggested (based on the info here at the time) that the tranny may be low. They put 3/4 qt in it IIRC.

Obviously now we know that the TSB addresses this. Haven't had a chance to get it done but I will.....
