I had the OVT and was good. Recently got another tune from MBP @moddedbyphil on IG. The shift is even way smoother than the previous OTT. No lag and has way more pep from the moment you put beans on it. Feels racy in a way which is cool.

You mentioned OVT tune, then OTT. Which did you previously have? I have OTT 7.0

I had the Orange Virus Tune. Maybe it’s the same as what OTT is. And that was a typo. All I know is that there’s this software called VF tuner. You make your own tune out of it. There are many tunes out there that are modified based on what they’ve done to it. I’ve heard of Overland tune, Sibi tune, KD Max tune, etc. What I can tell you is this tune I have is smoother than the Orange Virus tune.

    Welcome to the forum!

Not sure if you purchased the truck new or pre-owned, but before the dealer performs the transmission service, ask them to confirm if any of the ECU updates have been performed/applied to specifically address and correct the shift and drivability issues the 3rd generation trucks had in their initial years of production. I understand from reading here that there have been several.

Re: the a/c: My 2014 doesn't handle the a/c compressor load seamlessly when it kicks in either: there is a momentary engine RPM drop, then a small/brief over-rev as it recovers. You feel this mostly stopped in traffic, etc, but it can also be felt at speed on the highway. To be fair, this has been the case on all of my cars 4/6 cyl) with the exception of the ones that had a V8.

When I bought my tacoma in jan. of 2020, the dealer had informed me when I took delivery, the truck had all the latest tsb's performed, so I wouldn't need to have any further service than the 1st toyotacare visit 6 months from now. I gotta admit the transmission behaved goofy during the 160 mile trip back home, but by 1200-1500 miles it was working perfect, and has been since. It felt like the truck had some sort of break in circuit/chip till it had that mileage, then wow, it was a different truck overnight. No need for any tune, it's a rocket the way it is. I like it better than my gen1 tundra v8.

i've had this issue when i had water in my fuel or low octane. filled up with some higher octane fuel and the issue went away. as long as i use 89 octane or better, the issue hasn't happened again. recently used 87 again for several tanks for a long trip, and the problem came right back.

tldr: i think it runs on knock sensors on 87 and it can make it drive like shit

I can claim the gas in the midwest when I was out there isn't the same fresh quality as we get here in Connecticut, where it's off loaded 60 miles south of where I live. 87 grade with 10% ethanol works great in my truck.

I’ve tried running higher grade fuel I don’t personally notice a difference but I also didn’t try it for multiple tankfuls

When I ran multiple tankfuls of 92 grade gas my truck, it just seemed to keep running sub par to what it normally runs using 87. Idk, or haven't seen any change, but I always try to fill up with a top tier brand fuel. Been using shell, or irving for the most part.

if you don't reset the learned values, it can take at least 3-4 tanks to start noticing a difference. it takes a long time for it to advance the timing. it will retard it very quickly though to prevent knocking.

My truck has done this since new as well (now at 22K), jerks around 45 mph when the engine is around 1800 rpm. This typically happens once the transmission shifts from 4th to 5th, keeping the truck in S4 helps. I have OTT (lite/mild) and didn't totally solved the problem. This weekend I decided to check the level of my ATF (3rd Gen Automatic Transmission Fluid Level Check DIY) and found that I was 10 oz low. I still need to drive it around a little longer to be sure but the vibrations seem to have improved. The mild setting on my tune also feels smoother when I accelerate from a stop. Fingers crossed this is the solution.

On the subject of tunes for these trucks....has anyone with a tune run a new Nissan frontier. I got the opportunity to run against my buddies. Those trucks are pretty fast. I could stay about the same distance with mine till about 80 mph, then his frontier would slowly pull away.
